All characters share same planet.

Most surely possible. Makes testing custom dungeons must faster.

My guess is the decision was to help in multiplayer so everyone doesnt start off in random places and you spend the first part of the game all alone when you want to play with friends. And it also makes transfering things between characters fairly easy.

I think, while it does have its downsides, the benefit is worth while in the end. Perhaps if its not too difficult, it could be toggleable on character creation. A "Start in random system" flag.

Was it always like this? I have not played for many months and this seems bad.

No it wasn't. Back with the "Koala" versions and earlier it was random starting systems per character.

I really don't like it either... from a role-playing standpoint everybody in the whole galaxy always stranding on the same planet is ridiculus. It should be an option for all the "soft" hardcore players who dont really want to play permadeath...
But as it is now you can just stockpile everything on the planet instead of your ship and always got what you need. It really cheapens the whole Hardcore thing.

    "You can".
    Why should you.
You chose hardcore, so why would you actually cheat yourself?
    That makes no sense.

    That is not the point!

Building The first house, Workbenches mining the minerals all takes place on the planet.

Even if you lets say do it all on the ship and lose it all. After restarting for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time the planet will be "mined empty" (at least the caves) so it will be much "harder" or more annoying to get to the starting resources than it would be on a new planet. (exept for core fragments I guess since you already dug out a shaft and therefore it will be easy to get down)

And if you let your resources on the planet instead on the ship it cheapnes hardcore as stated before. Either way: you lose.

Yea I think there may be a way to avoid planet deletion on this (if not I hope for a feature like this). I love the new world I started on and want it as my homeworld, and losing it would really be a bummer.

Its a extremely stupid feature, that would easily be mistaken for a bug, with no real reason for it to exist to begin with.

Right next to Teleport animation, and general "testing" vibe the game has, its one of the things that should have already been destroyed/improved, but hadn't, for reasons that nobody understands.

I thought this was a bug at first, caused by the new bookmark system. After going through a few new characters I came here and learned that's just how it is. I really do hope they change this, something like Terraria where you can choose a world to use would be awesome, or maybe it creating another starter world in a pre-existing universe. Maybe with the "infinite" sized universes, they are trying to keep file size down... but I hope they change it in some way before the release.

    The planet is always same.

But is it same for you and me? I know it isn't same universe. I'm asking if there is a special starting planet now?

No. (Longer fact-based explanation once I'm @ pc).

Apparently it'll take a while till I can use the keyboard, so here ard the basics:
On character creation the universe server scans for a starting planet.
It's looking for a RANDOM (more or less, nothing players should concern themselves abou) system containing at least each one type of those planets:

    Desert
    Lush
    Ancientgateway

Then, the lush planet is selected and locked as the global (as in for each character) starting planet.

there is a VERY SIMPLE solution. leave enough resources on the starter planet to fix the FTL engines; then, get 1000 fuel from the moon; last, jump to a random set of coordinates. BAM! Entirely untouched part of the universe just for you.
