Not a fan of the idea I'm afraid. I mean I can see many people saying 'Yes! I am thee evil robot overlord, Mwah ha ha ha!' however I don't think it really needs to be game 'official' if you get my drift. People can work it out themselves. Doesn't really have a purpose or reason for being in there, just something fun people can do of their own accord.

I mean in response I wouldn't say so far as to hate the idea, but I definitely believe it's not something I would care to see in the game. However I have seen this alignment system used before and agree it's very detailed. Has worked very well in TBS, RTS and RP games.

An alignment system implies there is such a thing as objective good and evil... and that certain NPCs would be hostile or friendly depending on alignment.

That doesn't work for a science fiction genre game at all. Especially since NPCs will be friendly or hostile for more practical reasons.

Not everyone hates the "damn idea". But the alignment system of D&D was the subject of a lot of criticism (for good reasons), and is, in some ways, very limited, though some authors manage to make fun or it or expand it, giving it more substance and nuances, like Rich Burley in his web-comic The Order of the Stick, who knows how to not be restricted by such rules, and make interesting and complex characters who are NOT just alignment stereotypes.

Honestly, the problem here comes from 2 things:
    • The lackluster presentation of your topic, since it's very limited, and you actually want to add an official alignment system to Starbound (that is, incorporate it to the gameplay), something which would be, in my opinion, a terrible idea. If people want to roleplay and follow an "alignment", it should be something that they choose to do, not something that the game forces on them (and honestly, I don't think a single video game based on D&D managed to pull off in clever ways the alignment system, especially Neverwinter Nights).
    • People are right: capitalizing every single word slows down reading speed. It's not interesting, it's not funny, it's not clever: it's annoying. If you want people to take you seriously, stop writing like that. It can be your "character's quirk", but we are not in the roleplay section. Would you, in everyday life, write like this? No. So please, show some courtesy, and write in a normal way. You would avoid some (legitimate) reactions, and you know it.

Why apologise for your typing if you're obviously not sorry for typing like that, or the slightest bit interested in typing in a more readable form?
People didn't like the idea, including me... Too bad, nothing to take personal though... Perhaps you can inspire people to mod such a system, or even mod it yourself? Not sure why some people disliking an idea should stop you from pursuing it.

I have always disliked this kind of system. I personally think that good and evil cannot be "measured" with some objective external system. Trough the practice of meta-ethical moral relativism it is easy to see that good and evil are completely arbitrary and flawed on a conceptual level.

Thank god for all the vigilantes who are fighting the egregious crime of capitalizing every word. Anything but that!

Keep on fighting the good fight, guys. What's next? Leading a campaign against people that forget to use a period in their sentences? Eliminating anyone who writes a run-on sentence? Shanking anyone who even thinks about abbreviating a word?

The only thing worse than that, is thinking he does it just for attention, and just to be "unique" about it. Do you think he'd really do it purposely just to get people to be rude as hell to him for no reason?

Thread Locked because we don't really need fifteen more people jumping on the "Stupid reasons to be rude to someone" bandwagon. For the record, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a hell of a thing. Maybe people should look into the crazy shit people with OCD people do before judging everything they see as a cry for attention. Or better yet, if they're so convinced OP is doing it just for attention, just to be intentionally annoying, they could take the high road and not feed into it?

I mean if he was doing it to troll you guys, he succeeded.

For the record: It's not the things that were said. It's the fact that the topic became about something as stupid as capital letters on every word. I doubt many were offended by it. It's just the fact that it's "weird" and "unnatural" and "unnecessary." Nitpicking for the sheer sake of nitpicking. Being rude just because there exists a reason to be, no matter how shallow the reason is.
