So If You've Played Never Winter Nights 2 And Its Super Fukken Long Story Line You'll Know It Had An AMAZINGLY DIVERSE ALIGNMENT SYSTEM. Frankly, It Would Be Neat-O In This Game. If You Haven't Seen It, This Picture Will Give You The Gist Of It.

Well. Since There Are Going To Be Quests, Friendly Npcs, Etc. It Could Easily Be Incorperated Into That, Say Killing Hundreds Of Innocents Will Make You Chaotic Evil (Or If Thats To Complicated, Cut It Down To Good Neutral And Evil, Or Even Just Good/Evil) And Some Quests Will Reward Other Alignment Points And Such. If You Dont Like This Just Beat Me Over The Head With A Shuttle And I Will Ask For Another. I Expect 3-100 People To Say That This Does'nt Belong In A SandBox Game/ Your Typing Style Is Retarded.

I really don't think Starbound needs to jack D&D's alignment system. It'd be completely arbitrary.

Because you mentioned it... Question, why do you capitalize every word in your posts? You do know that it causes eye strain and slows down reading speed, right? Please be kind to eyes!

  5. Yes, because the Alignment System originated from Neverwinter Nights.

I wouldn't complain if it's in there (since I quite like that particular system), but I don't think Starbound needs it. There's no morality system in the game that I know of, and the player character's "alignment" will probably just be dependent on the player's own perception, characterisation and roleplaying.

On topic, no. Just roleplay. The reason alignment is good in D&D games is they have a noticable impact on the game as all characters are fleshed out and the story is fairly linear, at least in comparison to a sandbox game.

I would agree that having NPC's react differently to you depending on your previous actions would be cool though. For example if you butchered a floran colony it stands to reason that the florans might want to send a force after you to hunt you down and will be less friendly in their interactions with you in the future.

That's not only in Neverwinter Nights series!
It's the Dungeons & Dragons alignment system that exists in their pen & paper games to act as a base for creating characters for stories.
I think that it's a great system but I don't really know how it would work in Starbound.
I could see a good/evil slider for killing peaceful NPCs but the D&D system is a bit too complicated for Starbound, not to mention completely pointless.

    Well you expected right.
What disappoints me is that many kiddies use annoying styles to appear "unique" without realizing that it's just annoying.
You are actually aware how annoying it is and you still do it.

The D&D alignment system don't really have a place in Starbound. I understand that it's fun to have a title in Starbound like "Chaotic Good", but the difference between Starbound and Neverwinter Nights is that in Neverwinter Nights your actions and dialogue is not something you could control. You had no way to say exactly what you want, there was only options to pick something similar to what you want.

Maybe I can't really put into words how or what I mean. But my point is that in Starbound your actions and dialogue is your own, you write it and you are in control on a greater scale than in Neverwinter Nights. Therefor the alignment of your character is not defined by you player but by the other players you play with.

If you insist. It's actually quite a good system, but it just doesn't belong in Starbound.
