An interesting feature for starbound would be adding farming. People could breed animals and perhaps even make cross breeds. The animals could be used not only for meat, but other purposes. Since the game uses a "mix-and-match" style animal generation, they could add traits to different body parts. Say, some certain body will allow the animal to produce milk. Perhaps after you get your robotic crafting table, people could create "Agriculture Bots" that could be easily programmed with tasks. After all, who wants to just sit there waiting for their crops to grow?
A ranch breeding system would be cool. Building an attached farm to feed the animals would be interesting. I'm reminded of FFVII and chocobo breeding lol.
Final Fantasy VII. an RPG for the playstation 1. arguably one of the best rpgs ever created. There was a mini game in it where you could capture these large emu/ostrich type animals called chocobos then ranch, feed, and breed them. The different things you fed them affect their stats and mating these produced pedigree animals allowed for even better animals with the end goal of making one to enter in a sort of "horse" race.
I think that this would be a cool idea, but I think it should only be for passive creatures, not aggressive creatures.
Good idea; how about adding a poll to this thread? I love the idea of breeding animals with different traits, body parts, etc. Though might require a bit of gene-splicing technology to achieve inter-species breeding...?
