I'm still deciding who to marry, and I was considering Sebastian, but according to a post I saw he gets pretty depressed after marriage, so I'm wondering... how are all the marriage candidates after marriage? Please tell me your experiences (and include who you married, of course)!
Well, so far I've married Sebastian, Abigail, Sam, Haley, Maru and Penny (on different saves of course ) and so far I haven't regretted marying any of them. They all stay fairly true to their unmarried nature. They don't do that much after you marry them, though. They help you on the farm occasionally, they all leave on mondays + some of them also leave on other days (Seb, Abby and Sam leaves on fridays to hang out at the saloon, Penny leaves throughout the week to tutor the kids and Maru as well as Harvey leaves throughout the week to work at the clinic), they give you the occasional gift and that's about it. Other than that they just walk around the house and stare at plants or furniture. Marriage will get more content in the 1.1 update, though, so hopefully they'll behave more like they used to pre-marriage after that update
I've only been married to Seb but I can say if someone is having problems with him being depressed all the time, it probably means they're forgetting to take care of him. On my previous save I was married to him for 4 years and only once did he have a day where he stayed in bed, and I'm told that's a very random occurrence. I don't recall any of his day-to-day dialogue being negative or depressing actually, other than that one time.
I only ever married Doc Harvey, in my first (not the current) saved game. While I never regretted my choice-- Harvey's a sweet guy and a devoted husband-- I did regret having to upgrade the house and commit to the marriage, if that makes sense. I decided it didn't fit who my character was supposed to be, so when I started the second play-through I decided to keep the smaller cabin and just become friends with everyone. But as a marriage choice, Harvey's great, if you want to get married.
Not married yet but do have all the bachorlorettes as girlfriend. Yeah, yeah I know im a bad man, but hey, Im enjoying the good life lol .
Also married to Sebastian and he's never been depressing for me. There's an insanely old (and VERY LONG SO BE WARNED) post i made about my impressions of sebastian and him as a spouse, so here if you care to read. i am big on character analysis and sebastian is def one of my fave characters to dig into, but that's probably because i'm married to him lmfao the tl;dr to that is that sebastian stays independent and more of a homebody but he's very happy and enjoys the married life, feels more free after getting out of his mom's basement really though all of them are pretty great from what i hear. i've heard a lot of nice things about harvey and elliott, and abigail is a pretty fun character too (with dialogue that kinda mirrors sebastian's but with some straying things here and there)
Thanks for all the replies! Haha, wow. If anything, that sounds like a lot of farming work... Am way too lazy to create so many saves. Good to hear they might add stuff to marriage. Is there a reason they all leave on Monday, though? Oh, wow, thanks for the extra post! I agree with you on a lot of points, he's a really pretty sweet nerd for the fact that he looks like some sort of emo loner. And Demetrius does seem to be the main cause of the problems with dating Maru or just generally Sebastian's home life... At least Robin does seem to care for him, although maybe marrying him to bring him out of the basement would be good. Oddly enough, though, I'm sort of turned off by the fact he's a game programmer. As much as I like playing games, I'm not very impressed by a lot of game programmers I know... At least not the ones who are mainly into the programming, and not into the art as well.
They leave on mondays to do their own thing. Visit freinds and family, have some alone time, do a bit of shopping, that kind of thing It's quite fun stumbling upon your spouse out and about!
I LOVE being married to Seb. He's great. I wish the marriage candidates were more themselves after marriage though. I probably would have married Leah or Abigail if I had to pick a girl. I'm Verrrry satisfied with Seb though. It warms my heart to see him visiting Robin on Mondays, when ye says: "Mom's face lit up when I walked in. She deserves to be happy." AWWWWWWWW!!!!!!
I've married Elliot, Seb and Harvey so far and Elliot is my fave. Harvey is very sweet, but I love Elliot's charm more. Seb, don't get me wrong he's a great guy (dodges glares from the Seb fans) but he just reminds me too much of my son irl to feel comfy marrying him. It was awkward. Never made it to kids (closes the book on that chapter). I do eventually plan to give them all a try, but I am super ready to marry Shane.
i say to marry whoever you like the best rather than what situation is the "worst", i know a lot of people try to save the bachelor(ette)s but all of them kinda have a sucky family life in one way or another, save for the ones that don't even have a family in the game. of course tho that's just what *i* think, you can do whatever you feel like~ well, we all like different things! the only thing i really disliked about seb was that he smoked, but he stops when you marry him so he's pretty much perf for me
Hmmm... on 2 of my 3 saves, I got married to Penny (1st) and Maru (3rd) Penny is really sweet with her dialogue and she stays most of her time with her tutoring job, she feels a lot like her pre-marriage self. Maru on the other hand spends about as much time inside the house as she does in front of the garden (outside the house) she occassionally gives me "scrap" items... food <w< like how do you find food in a scrap pile... anyways I digress! my impressions on Maru are indeed different from Penny, and she has that rare but extremely cute portrait thats just "ahhh my heart! *dies*" I say... go for it! marry Sebastian!
I agree with MagicallyClueless, and also, don't take forum comments as fact. I read Sam isn't a good choice, that he doesn't do anything, etc. but he's great, gives my farmer pancakes, is encouraging, gives massages, and does things around the farm. His dialogue is mostly simple, but then he has days where he says some really great, responsible things, and he never mopes around or anything that would make you feel bad that you married him, so... yeah, that's my experience.
Abby is the bestest ever. I may be a little biased but like.. she's just the bestest. She stays true to who she was before marriage. She plays prairre king, says hi to ma and pa, and goes to the graveyard on mondays. She goes and plays her flute then hangs out with the squad on friday's. She still goes exploring because she'll sometimes be like "I went exploring and found this and it reminded me of you" Also her marriage dialogue is just the flippin best. She talks about the rain a lot when it rains and the night. Like i have 0 regrets marrying Abby. She's amazing. Once Shane comes out I'll let you know how he is because he's my bestie so I'm gonna make a female farmer for him. From my two very much Seb loving friends I can say he's a pretty rad dude too.
Abby really is the bestest It's been a while since I played the save with her as the spouse and I actually miss her. Definitely have to remarry her one day.
I dont personally see her to be that fabulous, despite her being the forums general favourite. She is all right, but I must be pretty blind to not see what makes her so unique or desireable >w<
No complaints about Elliott. He dotes on me and the children, fills his day with writing so I don't feel guilty about dragging him away from his passion by putting a ring on his finger like all too often happens in RPGs, has never spent a day in bed and never complains when I give bachelors birthday presents. Those last two are probably RNG and the fact I get up every morning and give him a pomegranate from the tree in my greenhouse but still... I love being married to Elliott. The flowery, poetic romantic guy who liked me without needing to be buried in a metric tonne of lobsters first is still there after we get married.
So far in all my marriages (cause I'm a fool who loves to make multi-saves)... Harvey is probably one of my all-time favorite spouses. He's sweet, he makes amazing breakfasts, I enjoy that he goes out to work at the clinic still which makes me feel more like he has a life outside of being to me, and he tends to drown you in compliments. And occasionally he has a cheeky sense of humor that has made me laugh. Also is crazy easy to keep content since most of his loved stuff is either super easy to get a hold of or you can just buy coffee from Gus. Alex I married with a dude character particularly cause I wanted to see if it was true about the tone being different if you pursue him as a guy (and it was around the time the in-law dialogues came in and I heard it was different for if you were playing a dude) and I have to say I was pretty pleased with it. Like his 10 heart cut scene I thought was really sweet (and also you get mushroom risotto rather than apparently the salad you get as a girl? ) and his dialogue is hilarious. The only tricky thing I found is he doesn't really have any easy love items like many of the other bachelor/bachelorettes. Elliot is a mega sweetie before and after marriage. Though admittedly I have been married to him the shortest so I haven't seen much of him in action. He was the second trickiest to romance for me because his of his love of lobsters and pomegranates meant until I got the pomegranate tree in the greenhouse there wasn't quite as surefire steady influx of loved stuff. But Elliot has a very self sufficient aspect to him as a writer so being at home all the time works rather nice. I only married Sebastion before the big patch upgrade and lemme tell ya, pre-patch Sebastion was definitely a lot bleaker as a spouse and almost turned me off from marriage in Stardew entirely since pre-patch marriage kind of gutted the characters personalities to default spouse dialogue and him commenting about missing the motorcycle but he was a married man so that had to go. It sounds like its a lot better now but I confess I just haven't had the heart to bother trying again with Sebastian. If anything, I take heart that there are plenty of Sebastian fans to give him attention. I found Sam so-so and his personality doesn't jive with mine, but its honestly because of all the bachelors...it really felt like marrying Sam was killing his dreams of doing music. Like I found with Alex his heart sequence was him coming to realization that he didn't need to be a big gridball star and to not base his happiness on what others expected of him. But Sam's whole build up was either just buddy stuff or him building up his music dream. Then you marry him and its like more or less the end of that. Of all the bachelors I really hope if there is more spouse content or scenes added Sam gets a bunch cause his was the only marriage I legit felt guilty about. Meanwhile...I sit with baited breath for the 1.1 Shane release. My husbandmons, I needs to catch them all.
