So this idea is simple: The game should have a way to afk or pause the game without logging out of the game. As it is, if you just afk anywhere your hunger is going to hit 0 and you're going to die. The solution to this is pretty simple: if you're standing still for long enough, the game should automatically "afk" your character so that you don't lose any hunger or hp. Of course you shouldn't be able to afk while there are enemies on screen or if you're in combat. When AFK, your character would turn grey and maybe have a little "AFK" thing over their head. A second way to go afk is by implementing an "/afk" command. Then people would just have to type "/afk" and they would not have to worry about starving to death or dying. When they typed the command the game would check if there were any monsters nearby, and if there were it would say something like, "Cannot go AFK while monsters are nearby" -- even if the monster are friendly of course. Anyways. that's my idea. I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten up to get a drink or go to the bathroom, forgot I was playing (even while AFKing on my ship) only to come back and have died of starvation. This feature would fix that, and with the right implementation it would not be abuse-able either.
I believe that's a bug and is going to be fixed at some point. But how about this idea: A Stasis Pod as usable item. You always have one on your ship, and might be able to find/craft more eventually to place elsewhere. To go afk you simple enter it. (and it can't be removed as long as there's someone inside.)
I think a pause button, at least in single player, would be the best solution. The lack of this feature has been causing me a couple of problems... I don't want my character to die just because I have to poo ;(
Glad I searched before I posted. I to would like a pause function for single-player. Sometimes you get a phone call, a knock at the door, ect., and you don't want to have to leave where you are.
