BackgroundAethrabubbles are basically flying ores. These blocks look very similar to small bubbles, except they have a bluish tint and a small stone-like piece in the middle. They float with the wind high up in the ozone layer of the atmosphere. Their movement speed should change depending on the wind levels, if that is ever implemented into the game. If not, then it just changes speed randomly. To get an aethrabubble, you must catch one with a special net.UsesAethrabubbles can be smelted into an aethrabar, which can be used for weapons and armor (possibly tools). But since the ingot is made out of a bubble, they are not very strong and should be used for their abilities instead. ArmorAethrabubble armor has the ability to allow you to jump an additional 1.5x higher than your original jump height per piece of armor. So, if you can jump 4 blocks on a certain planet, you can jump 6 blocks with a pair of aethrbubble boots. 8 with another piece, and 10 with 3 pieces. Having a full set allows to float slowly downward and, if you hold shift, to fall 2x as fast. The full set grants immunity to falling damage. Good for traversing ravines, cliffs, and the like, but lacks good protection against enemies. Aethrabubble jet pack- A jet pack that uses your energy pool instead of fuel. Shoots little bubbles out the bottom. WeaponsAethrabubble sword- Has the ability to act similar to a boomerang when pressing some button, and swings very fast. Good for quickly attacking enemies, as it is not very powerful. Aethrabubble bullets- Have EXTREMELY high velocity, but at the cost of low damage. Good for lousy shots. Aethrabubble boomerang- A controllable boomerang (similar to Terraria's magic missile) that can hit 3 enemies before flying back to the user. Not very powerful, but useful for hitting multiple enemies. P.S.I came up with this idea with a friend, but he doesn't have a Starbound account.P.P.S.I feel stupid, but how do you change the name of the thread? I want to change the name to Aethrabubbles.
This concept of Aethrastone is really interesting, I'd be happy for this to be added in game, because all the ideas are great, especially looking at the weapons, the ideas are original. Modding is always an option though, so, no matter what, this could be added in the game. I'd like it so much. =P
This is an interesting and original concept. I like it. Maybe this ore is lighter than air, which is why it "flies" ?
Possibly, but I was just now thinking that maybe it should fly with the wind, similar to how a dandelion will float and be carried around.
I like the idea a lot, but maybe not ores? When I think of the word ore it reminds me of stones, fabric or other light materials that could float with the wind? : )
This is quite interesting. But why would it float? Would it float in ore "bubbles" filled with hydrogen? Or could you find it only in planets with low gravity and strong winds perhaps? If you can think of a reason why it would float, then it's a great idea(the game is sci-fi after all, we can't have titans keeping up the ores afloat by blowing at them from below. One thing though - since there will be gravity and everything, if there's wind speed, perhaps the movement speed of this ore could be adjusted by that? If the wind is strong, it moves really fast. If it's not, then it moves slowly. Either way. A good idea you have here.
I agree it should be caught! I mean how do you mine something in the air? The ore would have to be in rock, but rocks can't float. So the floating prowess of the ore would have to be greater than the mass of the rock it's in right? a bit confusing it seems. I like the dandelion idea though.
Alternatively, it could just float for the sake of it, but if you want to go for more of a capacious scale of detail, that's honestly fine. I envisage Aethrastone being very diaphanous by floating around, not speeding too fast in any direction, that's at least what the whole 'floating' idea has communicated to me. One thing I must mention, don't get too frivolous with the weapons and so on, they seem slightly overpowered in ways, they all sound so juicy and masterful but it's tipping over the top a bit, in an honest opinion. Maybe the sword's damage could be lowered when you come to that stage in time as well as the hawk being un-competent for some things. Nothing too major, though. The whole approach of concept is fantastic and I am loving the choice of name. Well done so very much!
I was thinking something in between, similar to how some volcanic rocks float on water. Maybe an ore inside of a bubble?
