This would be a placed object that looks basically like this: It would be much smaller than an actual clock tower, of course. More like a grandfather clock, but probably larger. This should be the sort of thing that is found at the heart of a dungeon, the centerpiece, the main event. But what mysteries lie beneath the facade? Connected to each of the twelve points would be two output terminals for the wiring system (one for the hour hand and one for the minute hand), and each time the clock hands reach the corresponding point it activates the output. The clock itself would run much faster than IRL time, and each "day" for the clock would be perhaps around two hours, meaning one "hour" for the clock would pass every five minutes in real time, and "five minute" segments for the clock would pass every twenty five seconds in real time. Bonus points if you can actually adjust the clock timing manually or have it match the planet's rotation. What would this be useful for? You could create an epic dungeon themed around the clock switch, with doors locked at certain times, traps deactivated at certain times, platforms moving at certain times, etc... Certain corridors could be filled with lava in the morning, then pumped dry and refilled with water at night. The potential for puzzles is extreme. The hard part for making this possible in randomly generated dungeons would be finding ways to snap the rooms together and still having the parts linked to the central clock switch. At any rate, it might be a nice way to simplify the process of manually creating a sophisticated clock out of smaller timers and circuits, and more visually pleasing as well. I'm not expecting something this extravagant being implemented before release, but it would be incredibly awesome and I plan to mod it in myself if I have to.

Like the clock room in Castlevania? That would be awesome. Having a clock linked to time would be immensely useful, too, turning on lights during the night, and switching them off in the day, activating walls/forcefields at those times or even just chiming the hours. I'd love to see it both for in-game time and for RL time, depending on the settings, so that one could also have some interesting contraptions there, too.
I love this idea. Not only handy for dungeons, but any building situation. This makes me want to take on the project of timing an entire planet off of one clock. You have my axe! -er, upvote!
That too! Actually, I got the idea from the Tick Tock Clock level in Super Mario 64. Now that I think back on it, though, I think I had the music from the Clock Tower in Aria of Sorrow stuck in my head while writing the OP. I also thought briefly about the doors in Radiata Stories that could only be opened at night or during the day.
