You can freeze to death in snow biomes or at night if its getting cold, but I think you should be able to overheat if you're in hot climates and/or near lava. And to counter overheating you should wear clothes that doesn't have any or very low "wamth" stats. And also have to drink water or just swim in it to cool yourself off. Another way to stay cool should be going underground, where its cooler then the surface.

    What do you think?

I'd love to see overheating added to the game and ways to reduce it. It's currently very strange that you can go near / inside the planetary core and not actually get warm, or overheated at all.

Why doesn't this show up in starbound/suggestions?

I like this. It would make sense on desert planets, or near the core.

It was implemented, but they took it out, I think they felt it was too complicated or something. I would love for it to be in though

Clothes that are good against cold might just be well insulated (and therefore also good for resisting extreme heat). But while I love something that would bring the game one step closer to having a "Dune" planet, I think the main issue with this idea is how do you cool down reliably? For heat you can just throw down a campfire, relying on water or underground to be available doesn't compare in convenience. Additionally, how do you convey that having too much heat is the issue rather than not enough? It would require a new way to indicate this new sensitivity to temperature.
That said, if it could be done well, I'd love it.

Rather than having the thermometer full to show "not cold" you could have it filled half way, and have it decrease at a slower rate, and go past the mid point to show increasing heat

I think a better solution would be to use hydration. Your character needs to drink, as well as eat. Just like food, your hydration level slowly drops. On desert planets, however, and near lava, the rate at which your water level drops increases. This way the thermometer bar isn't confusing by having you need to keep it centered.

I agree with dehydration, give water dispensers a reason for being in the game, also flasks (which I just found).

I think a hydration system is also the best way to handle it, or else, if it is just another meter clogging up the interface, maybe integrate it with the hunger system? As in, you get exhausted and hungry faster in high heat. Then again, a separate hydration system might not be too complicated. Seems reasonable enough.

It wouldn't be another interface, as you cannot freeze AND overheat at the same time.

Personally I have also considered this idea myself, It would be a very nice feature and would require armor tweaks.
