    Hello, guys!
I wait your game long time and buy it through pre-purchase from your site more than year ago.
I always thought that you will make really good game with atmosphere of space adventures and sci-fi.
    But i was wrong.
All sci-fi elements - it's just decoration, without any gameplay functions. Even lamps and electric traps and s.o. - all it work without generators, without any energy.
I alway thought that in Starbound we will see different high-tech and sci-fi devices, that will be inserted in gameplay. I thought that in Starbound we'll be creating energy stations, elevators, different types of transport, many kinds of devices and s.o. I thought that in Starbound we can create unique weapons, and not just collect it from chests. I thought that we can create factory's, may be some types of manufactures. I thought that space in this game it's not just a background, and that in space we'll be have adventures. I thought that weapon will be break down, that we'll must be create ammo, that hitting in different zones will be bringing different damage. That In Starbound we must be confront against powers of nature, make terraforming, fighting against invasions of monsters, extraterrestrial invaders, greedy pirates and aggresive rulers.
I thought that in Starbound i can see many things, that i often read in numerous novels from A. Clark, Philip Kindred Dick, Bradbury, Sheckley, C. Oliver, Anderson, Saberhagen and s.o.
    But i was wrong.
BUT! I hope that you guys do it in future. That you'll make not just Terraria clon with little amount of new aspects, but really unique game. I hope that it be so. I believe in you, guys.
    Please, do it.
    Good luck to you !
    Best regards,
    with love ♥,
    Dmitriy.

Maybe leave this towards a mod?... don't get me wrong it's a great idea, just a though.

Yepp. I totally agree with you. Think 'Alien' meets 'Strugazkij Brothers' in space. That'd be cool. I don't think that the devs will make any steps in this direction anytime soon however.

  4. I'm curious where the OP got the impression that the game would be anything like that. I've never heard anyone say anything (in an official capacity) about building generators or alien invasions.

Yeah, generate powers for devices, that use electricity for their work. Or you think that lamps, electro doors and other devices can get power from nowhere? Do you think its cool?

Ha! You curios with it, yeah? But if game was positioned as game about age of space travel between stars and planets, as game in sci-fi thematic i thought that it should be obivious that many of this features must be in game. But all that i see now it not sci-fi game in space, its just Terraria with little sci-fi decorations. But even in Terraria we seen invations events - Goblins, Bloody Moon, Invation of Snowmans and s.o., we seen Corruption and Holy lands, we seen balanced gameplay. All that we can see in Starbound now - its just thousands of planets with few types of background and same monsters. Its really your vision of completed game? You really think that now we can say - "Hey, guys, you do it well, now relax. You can forget about 3 stage of beta, about interesting mechanics- its fine as it is." ? I very happy that developers now, though slowly, but still working on the game and i hope that my suggestion we'll be seen and noted. I not say that all must be how i write, but even if they make some part of it then it will be cool.

Yeah, it's sad, but now i'm glad that they at least work on new monsters mechanic. Its something.

Yeah, it can be so, but i think that we pay our moneys to developers, not to mod creators, and in return expected that they make great and variety game with deep and difficult mechanic, didn't we?

But guys, i still have faith in developers. They look and talk like a fine guys. I really hope that they dont stop working and in finish show to us really good, really unique game, not "underdone terraria in space".

And i hope that they increase the role of crafting. Its sad that best weapons lie in chests. All craftable weapon really suck. And its better do more combined weapon, like in terraria, where we combined few legendary things and made even more great thing.

Chucklefish, keep working, i believe in you! ^-^ :)

  6. Who ever said this game was even near completion? I never said they should stop developing the game and leave it as is. I want to know who told you "the game will require that your base have a power generator" and "there will be alien invasion events that happen on your planet".

My vision for the game is vastly different than yours, and from everyone else's. All of us want different things but in the end the Devs are going to decide what they want and that's really that.

Aside from that, they never said it would be a hard Sci-Fi. The debate about realism in this game has gone on for a long time and the end result is a resounding "the game will be what we want it to be, realistic or not". I think of the universe as more of a "Farscape" than "Star Trek".

I hope they add the stuff in too, but I imagine it'll start at the titanium/durasteel tier, myself. Which is about as far as they've gotten in terms of progression-- they don't even have durasteel blocks yet, and the last crafting station we have is the one that makes titanium.

As much as i love Sci-Fi, i think it's pointless to ask Devs to add more of it. Looks like they are dead set on current state and 'lore' of their universe and all 'sci-fi' and machinery will come as in Minecraft or Terraria - simplistic switches, buttons, wires, etc, no real advanced machinery or energy generation. All supposedly sci-fi stuff will be cosmetic only. But to be fair, they never said Starbound will be a true sci-fi game. Yeah, they never said otherwise and, may be, baited some ppl with their sci-fi 'concept art' and all those news about space station (original concept) but they never directly confirm it.

Oh man... the hard science threads from pre-beta. The true sci-fi thing made me think of those.

Was there, saw that. Demanding 'hard' sci-fi is, IMO, unreasonable. Ok, i, even, don't need more sci-fi at all. But more sophisticated tools and crafting, more complex resource-crafting interaction is more than welcome. But it looks like between the paths of rural farmer and landlord, adventurer and warrior with focus on melee stuff there is no place for it.

Not to be "that guy", but I think it's clear that the devs plan on taking this in whatever direction they desire to take this in.

Autonomous poop monsters are a thing. I'm hard pressed to think that we must apply hard, scientific logic to other aspects of the game, you know?

  15. Generators could be cool. I'm not sure how comfortable I'd be with keeping power in mind for everything. I kind of like the "it's just a game" approach to how electronic/mechanical items are handled.

I too am hoping for a little more sci-fi. Like force-field shields and automated drone defenses.

Even if it's just an item that produces a soft hum for a short distance, a generator would at least look nice in my base-- a solar panel array item would be a nice looking silent version.

  17. That could be really cool -- the soft hum

I'm thinking very soft, like the background hum while you're in the Normandy Shuttle Bay in Mass Effect 3. Soft enough that it just creates a nice ambiance, rather than distracts (unlike the obnoxiously loud and ever-present beeps and clicks of the Environment Wall Panel item)

  19. It would make your stay in your ship a little more bearable -- being able to add a note of ambiance

I'd love me some science. However I'm not sure if I am entirely sold on the Minecraft approach to electronics. I would much prefer something more streamlined.

It seems CF has several options for handling power in Starbound besides having everything run on it's own batteries with unlimited power:
    1. All devices that share a wall share a utilities grid automatically (I personally would prefer this for the sake of simplicity).
    2. Area-of-effect power supply, similar to how heat currently functions.
    3. A sub-layer that allows player to place wires and pipes similar to Terraria.
    4. Dedicated electronics blocks and switches similar to Minecraft's red stone (very invasive to general design because we have only two layers to work with).

Similarly CF has a few options for controlling these mechanisms:
    1. Centralized programmable console core (This would be most awesome).
    2. "Hackable" console / wiring layer viewer / wiring mini-game
    3. Pre-made logic modules/gates.
    4. Manual logic gates (Please no)

As far as more science goes, I think they are already on the right track with the content they have planned. The techno/magic staves and outposts will be a very welcome addition. I just hope that someday I can role-play Firefly (custom crew and true ship combat).
