Yea, just like how custom races don't effect the normal races I don't see how a custom mode setting on one character will suddenly change the other characters. Pretty sure the conditions you are playing the character in is saved within the character file itself once you are actually in the game.

For the fun of it I just did the math and there are a total of 20 different game modes atm (24 if dropping items on permadeath will effect you in some way like picking them back up with a new character) to choose from. That not even counting the fact you can choose which kind of items to drop or the amount of pixels you will drop. If they were to ever add a new editable option such as the heat/cold meter then it would literally double the amount of game modes right away. Players can really have their cake and eat it too with the way the devs had set it up.

Yeah, you can edit what "casual" is and whatnot, but it will effect all characters that use that difficulty mode. The difficulty setting config effects everyone.

No, what i'm saying is that the parameters are determined on character creation; changing the parameters of a mode would not affect already created characters.

I think it should remain optional as should the temperature mechanic they removed this way everyone wins.

I like what they're planning with the "Survival" mode. At first I thought I'd probably play through the game on casual, now though I'd kinda like the challenge. When the combat and colony updates came out I rather loved what they did with the farming. I was having a lot of fun hunting monsters with my hunting bow and watering crops while tending to my colonists. I literally spent 10 hours just doing farming/colony stuff. I like the thought of Survival mode and I think we should just keep hunger to Survival.

Gotta second the last post. The only reason I might like a hunger mechanic for casual(and even then only an "hunger lite"that debuff rather than kill the character on casual) it's really just so I could consume more than one did item at a time so my food inventory would stop filling up.

I do want a challenge to the game, but having food not stack isn't a 'challenge'
It just kind of restricts you from preparing for a long adventure, and even with the addition of a food tab, it still puts a hindrance on the player's exploration.

An option to turn it off is fine and dandy, but I do want to experience hunger without it being a pain. I did enjoy making farms originally and going hunting (Even if it was useless).
And would love to finally see a reason to cook food.

Well technically there IS already a reason to cook food in nightly.
A lot of different food type gives off a variety of buffs. Which is possibly one of the big "advantages" of survival right now is that having an hunger bar like it currently is allows them to actually stack on more than one food buff at once when filling up their hunger bar.

A casual player however is considered as having a permanently filled bar, though, so they can only eat a single food item at a time and thus must wait for the "well fed" status to fade before they can eat any other food... whether it gives off actual buffs or not.

I usually don't wait that long to clean out a fridge in Casual mode, I tend to share my extra food with the ship pet, its kind of fun to see weather it likes the item or not.

    Ah!
Thanks, I didn't think of the ship pet. Good suggestion :)

I don't think they should have more anymore, especially with the plans to allow users to script what each difficulty means. They should have a game options screen when creating a character with all the options that can be set. What are now game modes should be option presets, and maybe have the ability of creating your own preset. Maybe if they still wanted to encourage players to play by their settings, have some achievements for playing through the game with their presets, but nothing invasive to the game. I think this would be the ideal solution.
