I never really liked Minecraft's crafting system. It just forced me to memorize things from a wiki. ...and these days I just play with the mod called Tekkit, which also has the Crafting Bench MK3 mod. It skips the whole grid thing and let's you click what you want. Still, the grid system is nice if you want to make people feel like they are working, and make machines that do auto-crafting. Just look at Industrialcraft and Buildcraft. In Starbound complicated things like Mechs are manufactured on your space station. It also involves things like blueprints and research. While on a planet you can craft simple stuff, like torches. We don't really even know what else you can craft on a planet, but I'm guessing tables, wooden doors. Things like that. Makes me wonder whether or not you can craft Steel Doors while on a planet, because unless there are some interesting tools around it doesn't make a lot of sense to create them without a factory of some sort.
Just because people prefer Terraria's ease of crafting doesn't mean they didn't look at yours and neither does it mean they are lazy, they simply want challenges from other parts of the game. You have posed a suggestion and now it is being discussed. Did you want everyone to come into this thread and simply say how great it is?
I actually played Minecraft on Xbox 360 first, which has Terraria style 1 button crafting. When I played the PC version recently, I sat there trying to work out why the hell I couldn't make a crafting table for like 20 minutes. I would prefer a Terraira style crafting system because: It is a much more user-friendly way to craft (Idiot-proof / me-proof) Time should be better spent finding the materials Doesn't encourage the searching of craft wiki's The Devs are better off spending their time making the important parts of the game, not thinking hmmmm stick with coal ^ = torch? Done. How about the next 10000000000 craftable items... Also.. Dam those lazy slobs. Maybe they can sell copies of Starbound with USB treadmills. In order to craft a torch you need to run X amount of KM's?
You will never win people over with hostile responses. Everyone has the right to like or dislike ideas.
Its just a lzy way of crafting. No one cares if one of the days in a game was wasted crafting. That's why wiki's are there.... Its not my fault you cant make a torch because of your inability to THINK. Also.. Your just being lazy.
This thread got entirely out of hand. Respect other peoples' opinions-- they're as entitled to them as you are. Don't be jerks to each other. Don't double post. Don't post responses consisting of one emote or one word. Y'know, all those rule-y things.
well crafting items for a whole day seems quite boring to me, I never said I couldn't make torches if it required me to click on a piece of fuel and then on a box and then on a stick and then on the box below it, and then twice more to take the made torch and put it in my inventory where I want it, but how much fun is that? I'm sure you will get so much entertainment out of dragging over all your resources because it makes for good gameplay, since its such a challenge right? If it requires that much more work and time to make simple items, wow it would be so fun spending time crafting items instead of playing the stupid and boring part of the game where you build and explore and kill people. earlier you said that only the complex items would use the terraria system, but not being sarcastic now, those should require a little work, not the simple everyday stuff.
This is a thread about crafting so I would imagine that yes, if people are posting in this thread, it will be because they're debating about crafting.
With the amount of materials, probably like Terraria. However, I wouldn't be surprised if the Devs somehow came up with their own system.
Hopefully its not like terraria.... but not like minecraft either... maybe it could be a machine that takes time to craft?
well at least he is slowly making the transition away from minecraft's system... I wouldn't mind them having a timed machine for complicated stuff in the space station lab, but definitely not for anything you make, only timers on your research and construction team making stuff
Well, yeah, when producing things like mechs in a factory, that shouldn't be immediate. But when you're making small things like a pistol or a torch, or even armor, that should be instantaneous.
I would like a crafting set up that you place blocks on the ground, and then you use a tool, and it makes something. and maybe it takes stuff from you for some crafting. A nice guide like thing would be making ghost blocks to show how to make what you want to make.
I would really like to see a more advanced crafting system then in minecraft or terraria this is a good idea
I think you are miss understanding the idea. The point was you don't have to remember the grid from, in fact the Minecraft grid was unimportant. My "compromise" was to say you do the complicated way the first time, then you could quickly make that item anytime in the future, assuming you had the materials and crafting stations. That way you "discover" the new technology, but then you know how to build. Assumably, your computer (in game) remembers all the recipes.
