Achievements

Hey guys, I have no idea if we'll have Achievements in Starbound or not, BUT, if they did, I wanna hear the community's suggestions on Achievements and how to get them.

Mine would be "The Cake Is Obviously Not A Lie"
You would need to bake 5 cakes and eat them all.

 

Multiculturalism - Enter at least 1 town of each race.

 

Centenarian - Visit one planet of every level.

 

Member of the cult of Mollygos: DATA UNAVAILABLE ERROR

this joke/reference has been overdone so much that I think I'm going to be physically ill

 

This defective sentry turret needs to be disposed of.

 

Space Cadet - Visit at least 2 planets
Home sick - Leave your home planet for 1 in-game year
Homicide - Kill a player of your own race

 

Well, going by modern achievement standards.

- You have started a new game
- You walked to the left
- You walked to the right
- You jumped
- You equipped an item
- You've picked up 1 piece of dirt.
- You've picked up 2 pieces of dirt.
- You've picked up 4 pieces of dirt.
- You've picked up 8 pieces of dirt.
- etc etc.

 

YOU HAVE FINISHED THE TUTORIAL

WELL DONE, YOU DID THE THING THAT'S REQUIRED.

 

And predictably the topic is derailed by the "hurr durr achievements these days are so stupid" *insert random made up examples that appear in no game ever* crowd.

Anyway, a classic of games where you travel a lot is the "travel X distance total" achievement. I'm bad with names, and I have no idea how many light years would be a good number for that either.

 

Smoking Hot Spelunker! - You journeyed to the centre of a world and lived to tell the tale, Or did you?

 

First of all achievements shouldn't exist because a game was made to make you relax and have fun not compete at the end of the world to see who's better than who BUT besides that my achievement idea would be

HOLY POOP! - You have defeated the legendary Po

 

I dunno. I got like 15 pointless achievements in my first game of booster trooper once. I admit most games aren't that bad, but a ridiculous amount of games do have the "get an achievement just by progressing normally" thing.

Well I don't know about you, but when I beat a chapter (or equivalent) of a game I consider that an achievement.

 

No one left behind! - Have at least one member of each of the different species in your crew.

 

David Attenborough - you have a lot of pets

To Boldly Go - visit 100 planets

Ceti Alpha V - visit a desert planet

It belongs in a museum - recover a rare dungeon treasure

Tilt! - 3D scan an arcade machine

Morgan Freeman Narration - defeat a penguin boss

Anyway... I really like achievements that pop up and make you go "I see what you did there"

It's particularly fun when there are achievements for dying in all the different ways (traps, mobs, water, lava, etc etc)

 

Genius- find your storage locker and open it during the tutorial

 

Too Big! - Wear "Molly Glasses"
I Have seen this before... - Get 1 "Guide Voo-Doo Doll"
Is This a Moon?? - Defeat 10 "Bad Moons"
So Cute! - Get 1 Pet
Shh...BOOM! - Kill 1 "Space Creeper"
HOW DARE YOU?! - Eat 1 "Molly's Secret Cake"
EAT CAKE 596%!! - Eat 100 "Cakes"
I'm Fabulous - Wear any Costume
Yay! Let's Sing all the Night! - Sing 10 Songs
I'm so Hungry... - Stay Hungry
There's Nothing Like a Home - Make a Home
I Don't Speak Japanese!! - Visit a Hylotl Village

 

I like achievements when they are fun little challenges or activities, not grinds. A good example from Minecraft is "When Pigs Fly" (ride a pig off a cliff). Although progression acheivements are pointless.
