Closed Access Violation at...0?

    Access violation detected at 0 (Read of address 0)
    Stack Trace... SignalHandlerlmpl::seh Trampoline()

    This set of errors pops up whenever I try and launch Starbound.
    I currently run Windows 10 Enterprise Technical Preview, Evaluation Copy: Build 9926.
    I currently have the Creative Mode mod (Compatible with Upbeat Giraffe) in my mods folder.
    Removing the mod and deleting the starbound.config did absolutely nothing.
     
  2. Starbound does not work for Windows 10. Don't use an OS that isn't even finished being developed.

    The OS isn't the problem. I moved all the mods out of Koala Storage, and deleted BOTH configs (Koala and Giraffe), and the game ran steadily until I ex'd out of the game. Now I hit the same wall. Also, it worked last night when the update first hit, and this morning.

    Don't listen to this guy he's just talking out of his butt.
    Delete your packed.pak file and redownload it
    if that doesn't work, hope and pray to chucklefish gods that they'll reply to someone's thread with an answer.

    Also, where would I "Redownload?"

    EDIT: Seems to be caused by this line in the log file:

    YES, you get the same issue with Windows 7, as with Windows 10. I'm aware of that.

    If deleting the packed.pak DOES solve the issue @Marcfyre , please do be sure to let me know so I can yell at OP in the thread above, as well as the other people claiming to have done the same for the Windows 10 issues. Based on the log file you gave me, you do indeed have corrupted assets. However, the question is: is that the only thing erroring out under the hood?

    As for how to re-download: Delete the packed.pak and go to starbounds properties in steam and click Verify Game Cache under the Updates tab.

    EDIT: To hell with it - Ill test it myself just to make sure. Installing Windows 10 as a virtual machine and we will see if I can get it running.

    Edit 2: GOTTA LOVE MICROSOFT! Getting the ISO at a whopping meg a second from their servers... Looks like this is gonna take a couple of hours. Ill let you guys know when I give it a shot.

    well, starbound and steam dosnt like each other. if ya still have it after all those guides, try to play starbound without steam.
    cause when i play starbound with steam get i tons of "no respond" moments, fps drops, the game wont even start sometimes (infinite loading screen :speechless:) and access violations, i dont have that when i play starbound without steam. i posted that too but, looks like noone seems to care about it. many peoples having since the stable issues with starbound and the most issues causes steam because for some reason hates starbound steam since the update (or steam hates starbound, you can see it like you want ^^)

    I had the same problems as the OP , the last update seems to have fixed them both in Win10 and Win7.

    EDIT: Got Windows 10 installed, but its past midnight so it will have to wait tommorw. No sense in doing it now since Ghost claims its working now, but Ive already gone through the trouble of DL and installing it, so I might as well see what the fuss is all about.

    Did you guys try running as administrator?

    Oh yeah and delete all of your characters, they could be corrupted.

    Yeah, no, that's never happening.
    Let's not shout at people here. I'll try this this afternoon.
    EDIT: I have tried your method. Verifying/Validating the games' files does nothing. A new Packed.pack is not installed and, likewise, the game doesn't start.
    EDIT2: Nevermind, I've been clicking "Verify Integrity of Game Cache..." under Local Files. There is no "Verify Game Cache" under Updates.
    EDIT3: My most recent log from trying to star the game after Verifying the game, Deleting my .config, universe, player and mods folder, and...well yeah, thats it;

    Worked on my two other devices, and this device up until now. Windows 10 isn't the issue.

  15. Not any more as of the last update, no.
    And now that I have Windows 10 on a VM, I can verify it myself rather than rely on people who arent tech savvy and cant follow instructions. :)

    It was rather obvious W10 wasn't the issue, given that W7 and W8 users were experiencing the same problem, pre and post update :)
     
  17. Well unfortunately, I made the mistake of going off of what other users who had installed it had said after I offered troubleshooting help. A good majority of the people here in this sub-forum doesnt understand the word "Clean Install" and leaves files that should have been deleted. Unfortunately, I cant really see the contents of their HDD to verify that they are actually doing a clean install - Leaving me with no choice but to take their word for it that the steps I provided to "Fix" the issue didnt work. Now that I have the VM set up, I can verify it myself.

    Edit: Also I didnt actually have this problem on my 8 boxes at all... The only thing that was wrong with me were a few missing JSON keys in the starbound.config. I havent gotten this access violation error yet myself.
