Have you ever wanted to transform that enemy's laser back into energy?
Ever wanted to stop a bullet with a shield and generate a small amount of energy?
Me neither! But now it's possible!

Absorbium is an extremely rare metal that is mainly found on asteroids and meteorites. It can transform light (lasers), radiation, kinetic energy (bullets) and plasma (fire and plasma) into pure electricity.

    Known uses:
    Absorbium shield:
This shield has a 50% chance to stop any bullet, laser or flamethrower and add half of the energy to your energy bar.
The energy can also be transferred too:

    The 'Strike Back':
This gun is directly connected to the Absorbium shield and can shoot all the energy back to your enemy.

    The Ultimate Solar Panel:
A very effective solar panel that is even more effective on planets with no atmosphere (because it can absorb radiation too).

Seems a little unfair don't you think? The only way anything like this could work is if there were severe limitations on it. Even then, it wouldn't be as good as using a normal sword with little restrictions.

Even with that, the Absorbium would still be really powerful. I think the problem doesn't lie in how hard it is to make, but just the extent of its effects. Instead of stopping every bullet completely, 100% of the time, a more balanced possibility would be something like reducing damage or occasionally stopping bullets.

And then with that, there is also the possibility of upgrades and the like, but that's a different topic.

Oh, and I have one other question: where on the screen would the "energy" bar be? Just something I wondered while reading.

Yeah, i'll balance it some more.
And I think the energy bar is the green bar in the top left corner of the screen.

Oh, wow, I never thought about using it for that.

What did you thought it was?

Well, I knew it was an "energy bar", but I figured that it was already reserved for something in game. I guess I just never made the connection.

    ~~EDIT~~
    Made it more balanced now.

Also, I wanted to add another option at the poll, but something went wrong. So 'May!' is no and maybe. Oops!

I may the yay for tay absorbium with jay.

But seriously this should be very, very rare.
    It's a good idea though.
I know you've said extremely rare but i'm just making sure.

    Or...

Instead of making it rare (which is a nerf style I hate, btw), just make it so that absorbium is brittle. It's a material that works great for things like solar panels, but is somewhat limited in combat. After all, the lasers fired from a gun that is designed specifically to damage people and objects should be a lot more intense than the passive radiation of a sun. After absorbing a certain amount of lasers/bullets/fire/whatever, it breaks into pieces. Even so, you can collect the pieces to make another shield later on (for example, if it takes 5 pieces of absorbium to make a shield, when the shield breaks it drops 3 pieces.)

Cheesy name - it would ruin the whole space theme for me with names like that.

The suns radiation is gamma radiation which annihilates any living creature it comes into contact with sooooo...
The suns passive radiation is nearly/is as powerful as a lasergun.
