Im unsure of where else to ask this but ive seen other pokemon races but not one of absol? does one exist? and if not could someone make one/point me in the direction of where i could better req one be made? ive recently got into the game and would love my fav pokemon getting a race mod ;w;
I have never seen one, and I don't think one exists. But you could make one yourself using Skittle's template, if you're willing to put in the elbow grease
i mainly have no spritework skill that would be needed for at LEAST the head, otherwise i would have done it my self already honestly lkqjwe even if modding is a bit scary since i also havent modded somethin myself ever lol
There's a first time for everything, and it doesn't have to be perfect since you can always update it later with a better sprite
thats true i suppose, if i cant manage to get anyone else to do it i can take a crack at it its so strange, you are like the first person thats replied out of all the places ive tried to post about this so far, ive even requested some ppl and i havent even gotten a "no" just dead silence
You could use this head and hair sprite I just made as a base. You will need to do the body sprite, facial expressions, etc. yourself though. edit: also ignore any "climb" animation frames that's an abandoned feature they never added to the game

Here, I'll let you in on a secret, just for fun. I'm working on a Pokemon mod currently, and my goal for it is to include all nine Eeveelutions as playable races right off the bat. Sounds ambitious, but... well, at least animating it has been more or less fun so far. I may be a college student but I'm lucky enough to still have free time. Now, the Eevees are just the start. There are a lot of old Pokemon race mods on the Starbound Workshop that either aren't updated anymore, or are pretty slim on content. And so I would, ideally, like to carry on the torch of these race mods by integrating them into the Super PokeMod, as I call it. Race mods like the Gardevan, or the Lopunny, or the Lycanroc, or the Zoroark (though out of all these mods, that last one's not so dead). I'd be glad to give an Absol race a shot if you'd like, when I finish up the Eevees. I mean hell, if you think you can help, I'd be open for it. I'm not the most Pokemon-literate person, and I'm doing my best to make the mod faithful and relevant to the franchise - even if I've only played, like, one Mystery Dungeon game - but it does help to have people helping who are more in touch with it all.
Well, most of the work is art. I gotta draw the Eevee sprites, and the clothes, and the armors, and animate the respawn cinematic... Other than that, it's mostly just poking around in JSON code to get it to work properly. Other stuff I need to do is: Come up with ideas for armor designs + some extra clothing ideas Write some lore (low priority, but could be fun + help ground everything) - I have some vague ideas for this. Make/find some sounds for each race when they get hurt/talk Design a ship Write inspection dialog (for when your character scans something) - this one would be pretty time consuming, but anyone who likes writing enough could handle it. If you'd like to give a try at any of these things, let me know and I can help you along if you need it. I know how motivating it can be to try making your own Starbound race; I tried it, like, three times when I was in middle school? I wasn't a very good spriter back then, though. I'm not sure how good at drawing you might think yourself, but my efforts back then to make my own races, editing the game's already existing sprites, were a significant help in getting me to understand the basics of drawing humanoids. Otherwise, if you're unsure of what to do, (or you don't have the time) it's no big deal. I'll keep an Absol race on my to-do list for the mod regardless. You might just, y'know, have to wait a little bit lol
i like drawing but i def dont think im all that great, so if i do help it may be better if i do in some other ways lol i could try throwing ideas around for stuff, maybe try some sprite edits here and there (i know one of my best friends likes writing stuff and is super inti pokemon, i could try to poke him for some of the writing bits?)
Yeah, you could ask him if you want. Worth noting though, a lot of the writing would probably be of stuff like dialogue for scan descriptions of objects, more so than things like codexes. I found a good program for doing this, even if he doesn't own the game. Still, there'd be nothing wrong with just coming up with some cool backstory. As for you, if you'd like to come up with some rough designs, or even just ideas/references of things like armor, clothes or ships, that'd be a big help. I can DM you my Discord/Steam username and we can set up a sort of "dev chat" if that sounds like a plan.
