    Hello forums!

I am about to replay Stardew Valley for the first time since I bought it (Excluding the two hours I spent gawking at the new farm layouts)

However... This time I will be attempting to 100% the game!

That means I'll be getting all crops, fish, food, tools, buildings, animals and relationships (and anything else I forgot to list :p)

This is probably going to take a couple hundred hours.

Given that I havent played it since I got it (Two weeks after release. Once again excluding me checking out the new layouts) I was wondering how I would go about starting off.

What layout should I choose and what order should I upgrade my tools?

Also any comments suggesting what angle I should tackle this challenge from are appreciated!

    Thanks for reading!

If you are going for 100%:

Do not make a plan. Or at least not a detailed plan.

      Reason:
Once you have a detailed plan you will follow it as fast as possible to see progress. So it will become a bit borring at the end. Start your game doing all of it a little. Once you saw stuff which brings you fun: Focus on this for money income (Fishing, Mining....)

Your farm will get sprinklers sooner or later so beside of planting and harvesting you can spend your time were ever you would like.

A detailed plan is why I always fail after a week of gaming (end of year2) and waist the time of the days only doing progress for the very first step on my plan: Marriage

So going for 100% (the same I will go out for now) is also to remember that experiencing the relexing spirit by playing it, is part of the 100%.

If you're not working toward a specific time frame challenge the only suggestion I have is don't set a specific plan, but think ahead...

When it comes to cooking it's easy to get stuck where you need to wait 3 seasons before you can get an ingredient you didn't set aside when it was in season. Take a look at...
        https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Cooking#Ingredients

Also when it comes to crafting all the craftables, many of the crafting recipes Robin sells rely on knowing other recipes that Robin sells. So buying recipes will unlock other recipes, and they don't show up in the list until you X out of her shop list, then go back into the shop list.

Since you're planning to do and get everything, consider sticking with the original layout. It offers a lot of room to do whatever you want, however you want it. That includes space for all the buildings.

It should only take you between 70-80 hours to obtain all 30 stars, have all the Town Folk at max friendship and Monster Eradication quests completed. I have 1 outlier where I spent 112 hours. And a good chunk of that was just looking for the last two artifacts.

As for Layout, try either the Woodland or the Standard layouts. The Mines and the River are the most challenging, and the Wilderness is just annoying.

I never have a plan going in, weather and RNG usually trash them. I have some goals on # of Sprinklers at the end of each season, 36 by the end of Spring 1, 66 by the and of summer. I also focus on getting the Greenhouse up and running by the end of Fall at the latest.

Good luck, and most important, have fun.

Thanks for all of your responses!

I have made a nice start on my farm (I chose the default layout) and I'm making some attempts to level my fishing because I can all ready tell the legendary fish are going to be the hardest for me.

I'm not setting a time limit or anything like that I just want to finish the game once and for all.

I am pretty sure I wont be able to actually 100% the game but I have made good progress so far.

With summer approaching fast I am going to need to have a load of money so I can get all the seeds I need for pretty much everything. I am not all that phased about missing things (except community center stuff because I do not want to wait around an entire year for a specific type of fish).

Let me know if you want me to keep you updated on the goings on in my game!

And with that I'll be heading back into the game!

If you wanna get everything done fast, I'd suggest the Forest Farm. Forest Farm is really good for getting a step ahead of the game early. All the free mixed Seeds, extra foragables, and adequate farming space make it the only farm layout other than OG worth playing. That extra money at the beginning of Spring really snowballs, though. I'm actually doing a completionist farm of my own atm. I'm aiming to get the entire Community Center done before Spring Year 2, that's the challenge part of this playthrough, because everything after that is just running around giving everyone gifts while my Starfruit Winery makes me millions of gold! Just gotta really look out for that red cabbage at the Travelling Cart, everything else is easy if you get your maxed out coop and barn up by early Fall!

If I end up still even interested in this game after this playthrough I'm gonna try the Longevity Mod out and try to add a bit more challenge, maybe see if I can do a 1-year millionaire challenge in that mod. :)

I always find fishing in particular to be the one facet that get people stuck; they get so focused on farming and mining, that when it comes time to try and wrap up everything in the Community Center, they find themselves stuck until the following year, and that can really slow you down.

Ideally, just plan ahead in regards to money expenditures and saving crops (you can use the save crops from your harvest to bunker down in the winter and produce tons of artisan goods), be cognizant of items (foraging or otherwise) that are season specific, and try to at least have 2 hearts with everyone before winter. Since several villagers (especially Sebastian) will spend tons of time in their rooms during the winter, it'll make befriending them much harder than it needs to be. Use Friday nights at the Saloon to your advantage!

                      Lilliput Supernova

It's retro, definitely, very much in the vein of 32 bit graphics. That's a deliberate design choice by the creator. There are some mods that boost the graphics here and there, but it's never going to be high-res. (And if you're on the Switch you won't be able to use mods, unfortunately.) A lot of players (including myself) find the graphics to be charming and very suitable for the gameplay, but I suggest if you're concerned about it, watch a few 'let's play' videos on youtube and ask yourself if Stardew Valley is right for you. (Please consult with a physician if headaches, pixilated vision, or an overwhelming desire to swing swords at floating bugs persists.)

Erg, not having a big-screen TV myself (I play on a laptop.) I can't answer that one! There's a zoom feature that does let you adjust the size of the display, and tinkering with the display settings (I'm going to presume even the console versions have adjustable display settings here-- anyone using a console version want to chime in to confirm?) can also be used to 'shrink' the sprite size. Try watching youtube videos of the game on full screen using that same TV set and see what you think.

Well! If you enjoy what the game offers, why not consider just getting a copy for your computer instead of the Switch? It's a pretty inexpensive game on Steam/GOG-- they've had it as low as $12 on sale-- and you'll have the added advantage of being able to mod the graphics on top of that! (Which you can't do on console.) Certainly another option for your Stardew Valley urges...

                                  that's a great idea....and if i didn't care for it..i will only spend $12 instead of the $299 for the switch lol...thanks

I have the game on Xbox one and it looks just fine. I do not see a way to zoom or anything, but you don't need to at all. The text is big enough to Reed and I sit about 8 feet away on my couch. The only thing I regret is no mods, but the comfort factor makes up for it.
