I think it's be neat to be able to latch onto trees with a grapple, as well as build platforms (and possibly solid blocks too) on them. Trees are a valuable resource, generally abundant and look pretty. I think for such a common thing in Starbound, they should have more uses/mechanics coded into them. Thoughts?
Oops, accidentally pressed enter before I put the 'neither' option on the poll. Like this post if you think neither of those ideas should be put in the game.
Perhaps if you put too much strain grappling onto weaker trees you can pull them down. Woodcutting made fun.
I could make a raised village on the tops of trees. And I could quickly traverse jungle and forest planets like Tarzan. So much support.
What happens in dense forests? how do you pick the tree you latch onto? Actually, what if you could click somewhere, and if there's a tree or background tiles, you'll latch onto that place? Precision grappling, anyone?
Not bad. I'm more on the fence about building platforms off trees because they are usually small and it would look better to just make your own trees out of Unrefined Wood.
I just did this over the weekend, added about 5 "Solid Trees" of my own creation. I liked them so much I've been toying with the idea of creating a mod that adds "Solid Trees" that grow can be grappled onto, and can be cut down. Perhaps they could mostly exist in the background except for a solid branching structure at the top where the leaves are? If anyone likes this idea and has modding experience, lets do it!
