i have played on a friends server, and we made a fancy house quite a ways away from where you beam down, and every time we beam back up to our ship to, for instance, get away from the cold, or we are almost dead, we have to run for a while to get back to our house... so i suggest the ability to set like a waypoint to where you beam down... maybe give the telepad an interface and you can select where you will beam down? (as long as it's in an open space, not WAY to far from spawn, you have seen this area, etc. etc.)

Yes! I was wondering if this was possible yet. It is a pain if you want to set up your base at a different location on the planet.

A "Landing Beacon" item would be perfect for this.

This would be perfect of course it shouldn't be very easy to create but not too hard either :)

Everyone and their mother has already suggested this.

Yeah, I would like to make a house on a planet but i dont always want to do it a "spawn." But I think it should only be possible to beam to places youve been, i know it may sound stupid having to say it, but still.

And your point is ... ?

The more times this is repeated, the more likely it is to be seen and taken into consideration.

No, the more times it's suggested the more diffused it becomes, there is no reason to have more than one thread on the exact same suggestion. Not to mention the fact that the suggestion forums become insanely bloated.

There is also the fact the one of the rules states to stick to existing threads rather than making new ones.....

    This.

The landing beacon item is what we need. You build it, you place it where you want et voilĂ , you can teleport in your House ! Obviously this item can be removed and re-placed like all the other items !

i think that once you place a beacon, you should be able to access a telepad interface menu, and be able to choose where you will beam down.

also, dearest apologies, i truly forgot to check for things like "landing beacon" before i made this thread as i though it was one of those obscure things that rarely anyone thought about.

I want this too, but I'd build it as such:

First Teleport/Beacon pad placed at default, can be moved on planet but not removed from planet.
Craft able TPs/Beacons, moderately expensive for early game. Place those for extra landings and:

Remove the ability to beam back up anywhere but a beacon
    OR
Pixel cost for beaming back from anywhere but a beacon

    PLUS
Disable beaming while in combat: it's not punishing, it's a lesson.

If they add a map, or revealed territory, then I'd also like being able to move your ship over the celestial object and beam down to explored areas (and placed beacons) as well as building probes in later stages of the game to reveal portions of the ground, or all but over time.

Yeah, I agree with OP. Its pretty annoying to walk the whole way back of where you left. I found a random generated structure which could be for use to for me as outpost, the only problem is that its a walk of about 1,5 in-game days to get there. Even worse its on a moon. So when its night I have to wait the whole night near a heat source until its day again so I can continue. Its doesn't make sense.

I think its a good idea to add landing beacons to the game, with the some of the mechanics of beds in terraria. Something like this:
    - Multiple can be placed on the same planet, but only one can be activated.
    - You will only land on the activate beacon.
    - Destroying activate beacon will reset the landing position to the original position until a new beacon has been activated.

if your really bothered with getting cold, there is an armor set in which you *can't* get cold (unless that planet is -300 degrees Celsius or something)
it's made with roughly 40 leather at the spinning wheel. :)

also i find your other ideas to be superb.

But if everyone stopped posting their thoughts or ideas because they think it might be so frequently mentioned there wouldn't be hardly anyone putting the idea out there. Let them say their ideas.

The point of a thread is that you can respond to it. If there is one thread about one thing, and people are adding their ideas to it constantly than it will receive more attention than a bunch of smaller threads about the same subject that die extremely quickly.

Then why not simply put a link to the main/larger thread of the same subject and suggest they comment on it and support it?
