So, I think it'd be really nice if beds functioned a bit like minecraft, in that they would set a new spawn point on a planet. So, wherever your bed is, that's where you'll appear when you teleport down to the planet. There are many reasons why this would be useful, but the main one is that when I go exploring really far in one direction, and I need to go back to the ship to resupply, or whatever, it's annoying to have to walk all the way back to where I was. It'd be nice to be able to build a house, place a bed, and basically make an outpost of sorts. This would really motivate me to actually explorer more of the planet, instead of staying right by the spawn point. Anyone else think this would be nice? Obviously you would not be able to place beds in dungeons, since you already can't teleport to/from them. But overall, I think it'd be a really nice simple addition.
All of this, yes. I support this suggestion. Perhaps multiple teleportation beacons that you can name relevant to their location or function on the planet and a drop down menu of which one you want to teleport to. A tactical beacon that can be deployed anytime to save your location on a planet for quick returns. Even an "amplifier" or type of beacon that can let you teleport to and from underground locations.
I had the same idea in mind but instead of sleeping in a bed. Why not change it up a bit and be unique. It would be cool if you could make a device that when you use it. It installs a new like computer by the teleporter so when you activated it. It would bring up almost a map of the current planet you are boarded on. But it would only show the parts that you have explored on the planet. So anything you have explored would be greyed, or blacked out and from there you can set like an arrow or something on the lines of that anywhere on the map. But you would be limited to only setting a beam down spawn point above ground and no where, where you havent explored. (Meaning you couldnt set a spawn point in a blacked out area. That is my idea for setting a spawn. ^_^ Here is a screen of where the new installed spawn point computer could be put.
Yep. Was just playing and came to post this exact thing for the exact same reasons. My idea would be you somehow create and can drop a teleportation pad like the one on your ship. This could work for when you create your 'home', but also work temporarily so you can resume exploration of a planet without starting over. I think this would be a pretty easy and quick fix. By whatever method, I really think the devs need to (and will eventually) give us some option other than the current system of beaming down to the same place each time. I built a house by an NPC town last patch, was about on the other side of the planet, ended up making a dirt bridge across the whole planet so I could just mindlessly run to it without getting killed.
Yep yours is good too. I'll take anything at this point, as this is my single biggest inconvenience with the game right now. As an addendum to my idea and a bump on this thread, the teleportation pad should only be droppable in a spot you can beam up from. This would avoid any exploiting by putting it underground or something.
I think your idea would be the easiest to implement at the moment. For they already have the beam up restriction in the game. Where you can only beam up above ground so they would just have to add that to a tele pad. Simple enough if you ask me.
This is the exact same idea I had. There could be a small terminal that pull up a list of the pads you've placed on the planet, each one with a descriptor you wrote yourself, (like House #2, Near Outpost, Mine, etc). Maybe even limit the amount of pads per planet to 3-5 or something. I know nothing about programming, but this seems like something that can easily be implemented. I can't imagine they won't do something like this in the near future.

Hmm, I actually like this even more than using a bed as a spawn point. Really great idea. I sure hope the devs implement something - anything along these lines.
I'd echo what's been said. Craftable teleport pads that work like the portal gun. You create a set of 2 that let you jump from one another.
