Race Abilities?

each race should have its own abilities. like Robots (or whatever they're called) can go underwater longer. and avians have a higher jump. something like that, but we need more diversity besides looks

This is coming. Racial armors are going to have perks added to them later in the beta. Avians will get limited flight, Hoyitl will have underwater breathing, etc.

Should be a passive ability from the start. A starting racial ability.

well. so races are just for looks then. making them useless when it comes to stats. kinda sad

Making things too convenient isnt that good. You want XY abilities? So you have to deal with XY negative effects.
It would add at least add some sort of racial special features. because right now, its a gray smush where everyone can have everything.

Its not a needless punishment. Sometimes you just have to choose between 2 things. in this case: looks and stats.
my point is: Giving Races more features and making them more specific would support the games/races story and backround.

With the abilities i suggested. i didn't mean HUGE differences, i meat like, avian jump a block higher, and glitches aka robots get 5 seconds more underwater.

    Nice name Ben Dover ;D

I can see where you and WoxandWarf come from, but I agree with Wox on this. The idea to have a race with a racial ability is a good idea (One incorporated into WoW!), but I think during beta they should try things out and let people really dig into the game and then give finals on it (maybe around late stage 2). It might ultimately be that way, where a race has X and another doesn't. Or one would have to make Tech for it that takes up a tech slot (Which is a fair trade off, I think, especially when you get around 1-2 techs and you have to decide which is better suited for the planet to explore!)

I too, think that a race should have a certain (Forgive me for this!) "Gimmick" that is inherent, but I think later on down the road, maybe Tier6 or later, you should be able to craft tech that allows you to do something similar. We already see some form of flight with the Gravity bubble/negation techs, so it might be already heading down that path! Who knows.... Ooooo!

On another note, this is probably the "Racial" abilities for each race (This is, ofc, my opionion. None of this is factual!)
Humans: Extra space (ANIMALS OF BURDEN >:C)

Florans : Photosynthesis (They are plant people afterall... Maybe reduced hunger? Norm hungerdepletion is about 0.45 or so, so maybe make it 0.2 - 0.3)

Glitch : Mining faster or a reduced weakness to cold and heat (They don't have skin, afterall!)

    Hylotl : underwater breathing.

    Avians : Limited flight

EDIT: APEX : I haven't given this race much thought. I would imagine an APE to be stronger than the others, so maybe extra Att.Power? Or better starter weapons?

Novakids (When they come out) : Brightness effect (Imagine having a torch up where you stand at all times, or the SHINE effect from Terraria)

I like your idea, to make a tech llab with certain abilities. and i like the abilities you chooses. i would make Flrans regenerate health extremely slow. and avians just jump higher, not like fly, cause that would be too op. but nice ideas for other races

I Lurked a bit, and I don't think they intend to have "Racial specific abilities". I don't know if it's fact or thought, but I'd take it into consideration. However, if they did, it'd add a level to the characters, something to give you a reason other than "This one has pretty hair", and give you sense of attatchment to the character. It'd also fall into the lore of each race, if you think on it. It'd be like a 2d version of skyrim, to a degree (Though in fairness, all races in skyrim pretty much follow suit of looking very similar to eachother with the exception of the Orcs, Argonians, and khajitt.) and that game did very well (Once again, in fairness, it had a cult-following... Lol xD)

Anyways, one topic, I think I like the idea of health regen, but I think then they'd be a bit overpowered, as they wouldn't need to rest. Perhaps as a solution to this, they don't need a tent, but instead can "Root" themselves to sleep. (This would have to be on viable dirt. Not moon dirt or anything, as it wouldn't have water, I'd think) Of course, this makes the ability useless later on sadly, as most planets in the mid 30 range are tundra/arid for me. x.x

Thanks for the warm reply and I like your name too, Jessasin! :D

To me, this is the better idea in terms of balance. Racial abilities should be an ability you start off with that race. Don't like that race? There should be a means to obtain something similar or the same for other races. None of the abilities should be locked to a singular race, but giving them each a little difference won't hurt the game either.

It gives the races a bit more diversity without making any one race superior over another. Techs, or even armor pieces could be used to compensate for it. Like a diving helmet for drowning immunity for instance.

    This Guy.
    nice

I would still make the inherent abilities stronger than those techs.
    Ex.

Florans : Sunlight = Energy-boost On day no Hunger/ energy boost Tech: Light Energyboost

Humans: Extra space another backpack+ Tech: +half a backpack (or a chest)

    Glitch : Mining faster, Armor + 50% faster mining,10%+armor Tech: 20-30% 5%+armor

Hylotl : underwater breathing. Unable to Drown Tech: 100% more Air

Avians : Limited flight +10 seconds of gliding/flight. Tech: 2-3 seconds

    Apex : better Movement (jump/run) + 20% speed/hight Tech: 10%+ Movement

    BUT, im just dreaming here.

I prefer some racial aesthetics, and some other racial abilities.

Restrictions can do good, but I fail to see how restricting those two would help.

Wait a minute. what if you choose a race, and then choose a class! like there will ne four other classes. a warrior, i marksman, a miner, and a ………. a…………. give me a minute…………… OH a Shield class. so here's how it would work"

Warrior has an increased in Meelee

Marksman have an increase in Bows and stuff

    Miners mine things faster

And Shields have more health or slow regen

  15. ReMark

    ReMark Subatomic Cosmonaut

I don't think those would be necessary, because you subtly choose those as you progress, much like Skyrim.
Shields prevent oncoming damage at the cost of a 2-hand weapon.

Marksmen use guns instead of weapons

Miners...? UHM. Well you pretty much have to mine all the time, so you have to be a miner. Especially late game (Sector X's aegisalt / Rubium / Ceruleum)

So you pretty much have all those things mashed into one. I think creating classes would limit this freedom of choice.

    But that's just me. :D

Hey, it's all cool. I honestly don't care about being right, because... Well, this is a suggestion thread first off, so I mean... You can't really be "Right".

But I really like the idea of this stuff. IDK if the dev's will actually put it in though. :(

To do something like that without limiting choice later on, choosing a class would just mean choosing your starter kit. Which in itself isn't a bad idea. It'd let people start off with their preferred weapons and such.

However, the way things are right now Combat isn't particularly expansive enough to need that, since your play style really doesn't change much if at all depending on what weapon you use. Only exceptions I can think of would be Gun, Two handed, and Sword and shield. And if such an option were added, I'm sure people would opt more for a ranged set than anything.
