Abandoned space stations terror focused dungeons

  1. Yeah, Bartwe definitely said he liked it and sent it to the rest of the team for their opinion.

I like this idea a lot! It would give a lot of interesting things to find in space along with a little horror.

I haven't said that I love this idea yet. You could do all sorts of fun stuff like repair some of the station systems to restore light, maybe even restore station defenses on some of them.

Oh yeah, this needs to be implemented. This is yet another one of those ideas that would add a whole new level of game-play to the game.

I had the same idea, even though a bit different... this idea based on Dead Space & Metroid: Fusion but I guess I don't need to make a new thread anymore... :saywhat: :metroid:

Well, of course I support this idea! *thumbs up*

Thehe, would be awesome to see some Metroids there as a reference, but I guess copyright cuts my idea xP... X-Parasite? Someone?

X-Parasite... the "mutant" or whatever... it could be a parasite that was in a laboratory-section of the spaceship and escaped... and infected everyone in it... well, kind of. :3

Funny how everyone talks about mindless murderbeasts. Endless cancerous biomass infesting the cargo bay is a thing too. So are toxic spores circulating through the air system. And dark anomalies in space and time existing emerging from shadows of other objects. And rogue nanites hell-bent on turning all organic matter into energy infrastructure. And theoretical physics gone wrong.

I'm little bit afraid that it would end up as monotonous slaughterfest later in the game. Because everyone will try and get the best gear the fastest way possible. It could be negated tho. Some "MAGNETIC FIELD" to strip off high tier of armor or weapons, as an option of course. Right before entering the station. Something like this:
"This station\ship (here and after "place") seems to be abandoned. Scanners have shown that there is some kind of magnetic(EMP? magic? Forcefield? Bananacake?) field around the place and it prevents us from teleporting all our gear to station. We've found the generator and it's possible to shot it down from distance, but it's impossible to predict what damage it would cause."
If player decides to destroy the generator it would release more monsters (and something like miniboss or something) and station would turn to deadspace3'esque (or l4d if you prefer) style, with all the Zs attacking player in big numbers, but some rooms turn to lockdown mod (hack or blow the door away or run for your life). If player decides to risk and travel without toptier gear then there are less Zs spawn and rooms like armories, living rooms would be unlocked with cool stuff in it, like rare materials for weapons\armor or parts for zombie\virus pets (like little ball of tentacles) or diaries of crew members\mad scientist\infected person

And i pretty much like idea of some virus, like in resident evil(4-5, and revelations) or warframe's infestation( and deadspace's necromorph biomass or UFO-series (I mean aftermath, aftershock and afterlight ones). And of course there is always some survivors.
Also, some sentient floran plant\species or robotic overmind to mix up? Same thing, but different style to each one.

This could be a great addition to Starbound. No one knows what lurks in the dark, empty void of space. Maybe the infection that the abandoned starship was carrying came from something hidden in its cargo bay, or even from "someone" that slip inside the ship and started to kill everyone.

Well I'm sold, though it seems the basic idea is, as has been posted, already put into motion for the game, still the separate ideas individuals have been giving are fascinating.

One thought of mine is how much kind of weird fun it would be to take apart these places once you've destroyed the protector item, that would certainly be bizarre though this is just a whimsy image coming into my head and nothing I expect would be practical to put in.

Some thoughts of mine would be that perhaps some stations would have curious asteroids the crews brought in either because the station would be a mining or research station and brought it on board, and the player has the opportunity to take them apart to unearth rare metals or items, while perhaps being attacked by creatures.
Other variables during the mining can complicate things deliciously such as being forced to use particularly powerful mining lasers/drills etc to get through the very very tough asteroid (I realize though this is a odd sell ,considering you use a high tech matter disintegrating device to mine on normal worlds.) but you have to do it in bursts, while having periodic waves of creatures coming in.

Alternatively having semi-random tasks generate on the fly could make things more interesting for more high-tier difficulty stations such as having to rush to a room to repair damage to air filters, or repair hull breaches, or unclog huge fuel tanks.
Another potential hazard could be a insanely tough guardian droid waking up, either cross wired or having some problem that causes it to mistake the player as a target/intruder, and chases them through the station forcing the player to use doors or other means to stall the super tough droid to survive, the scenario having a touch of the "Oh god I got to get away from this thing" scenes done in Metroid Fusion or Resident Evil 2-3.

Eh.. I'm rambling on long enough.. I had a completely different paragraph... or two written out then stopped and erased them. The two ideas I really want to stand up for are the chases through stations by insanely hard foes and using your environment to top/kill them, and random emergency tasks coming up on the fly to keep the station going.

That's my two pennies for space station areas.

The idea is fantastic and it would be interesting if you would find one of these places when doing a light speed jump. Like while in the middle of going to your destination your ship would prompt you on a object in the path ahead and give you options to attempt to contact it and eventually board it or just go on past it as i figure they would be relatively dangerous. Also the above idea^
    Just awesome

Here's another thought: with those tasks I suggested, one of them could require careful wiring to bring power to specific parts of the station! It's always great to involve the prime mechanics of a game in puzzles <3 . The player would have to shift some wires around perhaps, and find some wires and place them (If they don't have any on them) , with the goal of routing power to doors or generators, maybe even forcefield generators to make some breached room's passable.
