A way to start new characters fresh?

I'm a new player who's been really enjoying the game so far.
I made a character, progressed and mined and all that, but then I made another character, and they started off on the same planet, with all my mines and constructions and everything still there.
Now on the one hand, that is super neat, but on the other hand, I really wanted a fresh start, new planets and all that. Is there any way I can have new characters start in their own system, without having to delete my current character?

I think the best you could do is store the twenty core fragments on the first planet , possibly an erchius crystal and use them to send the new character to a different planet or system and start from there.

Currently, the system operates by producing a "Universe" folder in your Starbound install directory. So,here's what I do...

If I want a fresh start,I decide one of two things...

    A) Do I want to keep this universe for my old character?
Or B ) Do I not want to keep the universe, and,by extension, the old character?

If A),then I simply move the "Universe" folder in my Starbound's install directory (Somewhere in the Steamapps file tree) to a remote storage location, like a dedicated folder on my desktop. If B ),then I simply delete the "Universe" folder. The next time you create or load a character, the game will generate a new "Universe" folder to replace the old one, thus creating an entirely new universe for you to explore and exploit.

It requires you to go directory diving, but it's nigh impossible to break anything this way,so long as you only touch the "Universe" folder. Should be in your Giraffe Storage directory.

I figured it might be something like that.
    That's useful information, thank you.

The game used to place each character on their own starter planet. Now I haven't played in a few months and its obviously not that way. Personally I liked it better the other way, each one having their own feel according to race as to where you started. Now its kinda... boring to start a new character. I'll keep that in mind about the folder though, thanks Riddle78.

well, actually the save universe and the player save are separate, so you can delete the universe without deleting your character

that said, your character can have all his crafting stuff on his ship, so personnaly i put them on the ship, and when i start a new character, the only things already done is torches, and if i really want a fresh start, i can either delete just the planet save, or the whole universe if ive not started to build
but since the latest updates i dont build on starter planet

Still kind of ruins it though. Doesn't really feel like a New character. Just another character, and whats the point of making a new one if its not new? If I suddenly don't like the character I made, perhaps just add a features to change said character to a different one.

The feel of the game is completely different this way from before. Like I said each character had their own feel because each one had their own ship, their own look, and a planet that seemed relevant to their plight. A planet that seemed like it was or would be similar to said characters home planet. Though perhaps it messed with multiplayer somehow? But that could be fixable too.

Huh. I rather like the whole "same starter planet for all characters thing". But that's because I like to build a starer base. If I start a new character, it still feels new to me. I still have to do everything new unless I'm grabbing mats from chests on the base. Once I get my drives going then that character is off on its own adventures.

That's why I said there should be an option in place for it. For those of us who actually want a fresh start with a new character. Rather than playing the same spot with a new character.
