Well that's disappointing! I tried accessing everything in the ship and even beaming down to the planet and walking around, EXCEPT the actual navigation. I suppose the only thing you could do with this now is put as much stuff in your ship's locker as possible and change the name of the shipworld file to match it with a new character. Then you could transfer some 64 items over... but that's not really worth it in my opinion.

I suppose it is just best to play if from square one again, but it would have been nice to have some items to make starting a bit easier. :p

Any idea how to recover the ship/words?

The ship can apparently be recovered by simply renaming the file. Basically each player has three files:
    • .player - This contains player data like inventory, appearance, location, etc.
    • .shipworld - This contains the player's ship.
    • .metadata - This contains timestamp and a udid, nothing in here affects the player.
To recover your ship you should be able to:
    1. Make a new character on the new version.
    2. Go to the "player" folder.
    3. Find the ship file of your old player. To do this, open ".player" files and look for your player name. It appears near the beginning of the file. When you find your old player's name, you've got their file. The ship file is the one that has the same name, but ends in ".shipworld".
    4. Find the ship file of your new player in the same way.
    5. Delete the shipworld of your new player and rename the shipworld of your old player to your new player's "random string" of characters.
    That should do it.

I just get Uuid Exception errors from that. Size Mismatch. Edit: This seems to be caused due to trying to keep a copy of the files in the same folder as the non-copies. Moving them to another folder fixed it. Character selection screen still crashes, however, player exceptions no uuid with that name

If you get this to work, you should NOT make any bug reports or complain about things not working right, because you will using a character with trash data in it.

Can confirm my method works for recovering characters old characters. But I still haven't seen a good reason to do it. If a Dev or Mod honstly wants me to tell them, I will.

As for getting a ship back, I think ship formatting changed.

More importantly, do you think you can find the area that stores techs/blueprints in the 3d printer that you've unlocked? This could be FAR more valuable than reclaiming the character (and is the only real reason anyone is trying to do this)

You rescued your Beta character from death. You should try to keep it until release, then retire it. It'll probably be a glitchy mess, but a unique glitchy mess.

Oh, I know if you can get your ship/character back you'll have it. I'm saying that there are those of us who simply get error messages in response to attempting this. I actually made copies and for some reason, those copies are jacked somehow as well. Probably mixed up copies. Anyway, what I was referring to, is finding the specific portion of the character save file that lists unlocked techs/blueprints, in which case, you could simply make a new character, copy and paste that over to the new character, and have the stuff that matters.

Tried it. I could get on my character. Once I got into the pilot ship, the game crapped the bed.

Currently the player saves are more complicated than this.
    Because sector X doesn't exist.

well... not that much. i managed to unlock all the upgrade paths for a new charakter via a hex editor but still couldnt find the starmap position lol

I was misleading when I posted it's in the player saves. It's not actually in the .player file. I meant more it's player specific oppose to ship specific. Since you are actually trying I'll help you that much, but please avoid posting it on the forums. As I said, the Devs wiped characters for a reason.

Also, did you unlock them for new characters you create, or unlock them for an existing new character? These are two very different things.

thats what i guesssed.... looked at a blank charakter and didnt found anything that affected his position.
i also noticed that dropped items and the fuel tank belong to the ship file aswell lol

Looks like you replied before I edited and I'm curious. Did you unlock them for new characters you create, or unlock them for an existing new character?

Also, here's to guiding you in the right path. My method manipulated the server/client relationship, it's likely possible without it, but that was my pesonal method.

  19. iHaku

    iHaku Phantasmal Quasar

on a new one. tried it first with a simple NPP textchange but NPP cant find the entire binary text for whateverreason lol.

you already have every possible unlockable writton to your charakter + a 0 / 1 sign if its unlocked.

however i dont know how it works with the 3d printer since i never used it before. i have no idea if it adds to your .player file or creates a new one or whatever

edit: also your solution seems to tell your charakter where he is when he connects to the server. this shouldnt work for single player since you have a unique save for that, dont you?

That's what I meant by adding techs is more complicated at this point, to existing characters. I haven't looked into the 3D printer at all, personally I believe if you're going to go so far as to modify the 3D printer you may as well just spawn things in, but I may look into at a later date.
