Would you like a completely random planet?

If any of you have played "A Valley Without Wind" (AVWW), you'll know the map is just a ton of biomes and time periods slapped randomly together. On an AVWW planet, something time collapse-thingy caused the different time periods of the world to be crushed together, resulting in a very random planet. Completely different mobs can exist in the different biomes, and same with NPCs.

Egh...that game wasn't very good, and I'm not sure if the chaotic-anachronism mish-mash would work for Starbound.

For one I realy loved AVWW and I also this think this is a pretty cool idea.;)

I agree. I think it would stray a bit from the "Science-fiction" side to simply "Fiction" side.

Look at the "space navigation" screenshots that were released. As you can see, everything makes sense there. For example you can't land on gas planets. Different planets have different gravity/materials/etc. You need fuel to travel and so on.

Now, I'm not sure how finding a snow biome right next to a burning desert biome would make any sense in relation to anything. True, smart mixing of biomes is a good thing, because it might be a bit boring if there's only 1 biome in the whole world. And with everything else dynamic, I'm not sure what to expect.

Either way, the "random senseless jumble" mixing you are suggesting(which is what I presume you suggest from that screenshot) is not a good idea, and would not fit Starbound. Especially if you're suggesting it simply because you liked the game in which that feature was, forgetting that under different circumstances it can make the game worse rather than better(like I believe it would happen in Starbound).

    ---

In short - just because you liked the game where that feature worked, it doesn't mean it will work in Starbound. On the opposite, the data we have so far shows that it probably wouldn't.

    Also, a sidenote:
Please make polls objective if you actually want to see true results. Right now, the "No" choice is obviously the "bad option" due to what you added there.

That's cool, but what's the suggestion?

I can see a "mixmatched" world but not by those principles, maybe a galactic exhibit where normally unrelated artificially maintained biomes are kept together... for the lols of aliens... you could explore and maybe even talk to the overseers...

I think it could work but not exactly like that maybe a large world with several different types of biomes spread across it sort of like Earth so it is like you have a volcanic biome connected to a desert biome and then an ocean sepperating another land mass that is arctic or something like that but not volcanic right next to ice biome because that would not make sense.
