A use for Clay, Fiber, and Glass: Arts and Crafts

I'm sure we've all seen them; breakable items that throw us pixels. Avian pots, those capsule pods, the tiny houses that rarely appear underground, and so on. I recently took a good look at them up close, mainly those Avian ones in the temples and tombs. For the tiny pixel size, they look nice. So, why can't we have them?

So, as an artist, I'd like to be able to hand-craft them ingame. Say, find a recipe in a village for crafting each separate pot and vase, and using a mixture of clay and dye (or gold, in some cases) to make them as furniture for our houses. Playing around with the files, it's very easy to do from a modding perspective, so incorporating it in the game as a base feature would ease on the load of mods, as well as let us craft a bunch of nice little decorations.

Recipes wouldn't be too crazy of course, seeing as the size of the pots and such aren't so large.

Apex: 2-10 Clay, 1-2 Blue Dye (base color is blue)
Avian: 2-10 Clay, 1-2 Red Dye (base color is red), 1-2 Gold Bars (for the Gold Urn and Gold Pots)
    Floran: 2-10 Clay, 1-2 Bone
    Glitch: 2-10 Plant Fibre
Human: Nothing because we're apparently stupid in the future
Hylotl: 2 Glass (Found in the game files; smashable drinks)

I recently uploaded a mod with this very idea, minus the recipe learning part since I still can't figure out how to do blueprints.

This is a great idea. Just the other day I was pondering how they might be able to add urns and decorations like NPC houses have, that cannot be picked up and added to the printer (as they are breakables). This way they'd be a sink for some of the less loved materials.

I'd also like to see clay -> ceramic plates -> armor.

Ceramic armour? Sounds fragile, maybe as an vanity item.

Rofl xD - no he's entirely serious: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interceptor_body_armor

Modern combat armour uses boron-carbide ceramic plates to provide additional protection against higher calibre ammunition. Kevlar by itself is good, but it won't stop higher calibre munitions by itself.

It might have Ceramic in the name, but it is in no means Ceramic as in the literal material used for Ceramics. Its no different than how the Space Marines from DawnOfWar40k use Ceramite Power Armor, an Armor that is made with a special metal with Ceramic in its name, but is not Ceramic.

I'm hoping you mod becomes successful. People might want to make an entire Town or Temple, complete with Breakables, and they'd need a mod like yours for that.

True. It's a ceramic, in so far that it is a fired, partially crystalline solid which is the technical definition of a ceramic. But it's not made from clays; rather boron carbide which is a completely different material so, yeah. You're right the suggestion doesn't really belong in the thread. But still the rest of it about pottery making is a great idea that'd fit nicely.

I'm ok with some small scientific inaccuracies. Clay ceramic >>>>>> gold pickaxes.

I really like your idea and mod. Hopefully, the devs will notice it, too.
