To be clear, I consider it to be vague whether the author or the audience of a work of fiction have the final say in what the spirit of the work actually is. Don't even start me talking about what George Lucas did to Star Wars (Han shot first!). I was just saying what I thought was the root of the argument: someone saying it's their interpretation that matters, and the others saying that it is the original intention that matters. It's actually a very interesting philosophical debate when you actually recognize that's what you are talking about.

It's probably good that they are changing the contest so that the nominators don't have a direct reward, especially since it will avoid public backlash from people like you (and I mean that in the most respectful way possible). If they tried changing the rules/rewards now, they'd come off as total dicks who just want to crush people's dreams (while denying a lot of nominators their tickets to E3 and saving themselves a lot of money).

You know.. nobody is going to really agree on this one way or another. No viewpoint is outright wrong persay. Just about everything seems to have been said one way or another.

Without posting my own two cents.. The title focus of discussion has technicaly been talked back and forth with everyone having said their piece by now.

Maybe its time to wrap this one up?

pls guys don't bring a youtube war into the forum and second we vote because we all want starbound to be know by the rest of the gaming community not to be number 1 we must stay with the goal we set out to achieve and that is to bring starbound to the gaming community.

I understand the person is selfish but honestly, look at it this way, Starbound is going to be sucssesful. This indie game which has been said before is not very well known is going to get a lot of publicity because of this and I am happy for that.

20k supporters for this guy to go to E3 huh?

I have this strange feeling that I've seen a larger number of supporters somewhere else...

Agreed. He is a prick and says every game he plays is "Gawwwwd Awwwful". BUT I enjoy his videos, and a lot of other people do too. I say we get a YouTuber of our own :D Maybe enlist them to help rep our game :)

It's a little sad Starbound's not at the top right now. I looked at this Doorways game and really... it doesn't look like it's doing anything new. I mean I like Survival Horror well enough... it's not really my favorite genre, but it's okay. Even so, Doorways just looks like it's trying to be Amnesia (and not really succeeding). I'm trying not to offend anyone, but that's just the way it looks to me: A tribute game that's not as good as the game it's trying to make tribute to. Maybe it's just because I have only the trailers to go off of, but it's not very scary. I dunno, MAYBE it'll be fun when it's released, but I'm actually afraid for the company making it that it's going to be torn apart when it hits E3.

Starbound, on the other hand, is of a very high quality, and I expect that something as big as E3 will boost its publicity immensely. I don't think I need to sing Starbound's praises at all here, as you all fully know how amazing it's going to be, but I'm just saying I think Starbound is of a much higher quality and deserves the position far more. I just wish I had the kind of influence to bring more attention to this indie crash thing so more people can vote for it.

Wow, you people are really misinterpreting the message here. And you're turning this into a bit of a flame war. This game deserves more exposure that's all. The only reason it seems like an offensive maneuver is because that's what the topic is about "look this guy is using his subscribers to get to E3" so I naturally suggested that things might pick up once the game gets more exposure. I mean look at all the backers and all the votes, if you compare the numbers you realize that most of them aren't aware of this whole E3 gig. It's not like I win anything out of this. But if you want to turn it into turf war, go ahead :yeahhhh:

It probably doesn't help that 20 people put Starbound up for nominations so all the votes get scattered. GG guys.

Hmmm, cant say I agree with this, or the meaning of this thread. We should really be talking about other indie studios, competitors or not, in a way like this, but instead encouraging a co-operation. Thats the main reason I like the indie game community, devs arent rivals but instead friends, for example Im sure the creators of FTL feel more happy about starbound than they do angry because thats what indie devs do. Just my opinion, but the starbound guys seem to think the same, judging by what they said in the newsletter about them

Also, there was some mention to Totalbiscuit, now Im not gonna bring this up again, but Im personally a fan of him, and at the end of the day you say your angry with him because he states his opinion as fact, but he doesnt. He is just willing to fight to get his voice heard, not a bad thing if you ask me :)

I think we should just support Starbound and leave everything aside. What that guy is doing is totally legal, also, the game is Argentinian, so I guess he also wants to support it because of that. The fact that Starbound isn't winning because of that is just a side question. I don't think the guy is a dick or anything. I also want to go to E3, what the heck . The thing is that we Starbound fans, should keep it clean, because that's in fact, the best trait of Starbounders, we like to keep things clean and nice.

There's still plenty of time to get people to vote for Starbound. Maybe we should start our own "well produced" community youtube channel hehe - Although, I'm sure there's quite a few already up there.

Also, Starbound doesn't need these big events to become the next big thing. The community is there and strong, plenty of people will be playing the game this year and hey, face it, a good game is a good game... it will quickly go viral.

Your opinion on Doorways is subjective--simple as that--so don't say it 'doesn't look fun in any way' like everyone else thinks the same way you do. Right now you're probably coming off worse than the person you're complaining about, calling people names and even going as far as to say you'd kill them. Very mature, dude.
