A thing about the Stretch Goal

Ok... I am not sure why MLP fans are being singled out as a group that support the pets because what the heck does it have to do with anything. (even if they do support it so what?) Personally I am neutral. This is the way this situation should be looked at. You pay X for the pre order tier you want... you get THOSE. Everything else is gravy. Are the starting pets going to hurt you or anyone else?... I doubt it. Example you paid for your tier, you are not paying for the stretch goal they are just bonus landmarks for the $ amount of pre orders and they are not costing you and extra dime.

Yes. I get what you're saying, there are a lot of people in fandoms out there that would want part of their fandoms in a game and a lot of them are a bit over the top about it, but does that really give anyone the right to use the fandom as a negative? Just most people in the fandoms are relatively normal, and you're really just explaining the maybe 5% - 10% or less that are extremely over the top about it. I understand using the more extremes as an example, but there are more people that are normal compared to those that are over the top. It's just how stereotypes get started, there IS truth in the stereotype but more often then not there's only a small group that act that way.

They didn't plan for it? I don't think they were even considering a stretch goal when they first started the preorder, and then they got a bunch of support and they thought, "Hey, let's show the fans that we appreciate all the support they're giving us." They didn't NEED to give us anything for supporting the game aside from the game. So yes it does excuse them a bit, not all the way but they should at least get a bit of leniency right?

I'm a pegasister and I don't want pets. I don't even know why you mentioned Pegasisters/bronies/furries at all. Pet lovers, non-pet lovers, anyone really could like pets. Doesn't matter to me why they like pets. I don't like pets, I don't want pets, but I respect the decision that people do like pets and want them. I am not happy it is a stretch goal. I'm not happy it's a goal at all, but the vote was unanimous so there you go.

Furry & MLP fans are being singled out because of sex, not even joking about that.

Anyway, I think one MASSIVE issue people are not realizing is that all of these goals are going to be added in whether you like it or not, they're just going to be added in SOONER rather than LATER.

I totally agree, although it may be somewhat of a pain on servers if lots of players are followed by a pet (like Terrasquare which is filled with people followed by a colored rabbit, which ends like feeling quite odd)

Yes this 1000X this. Its wonderful to see people who actually think like this. ^^ The crazies are everywhere and in EVERY fandom and just tend to be more vocal so they "set the tone" for the entire community.

Yes, because developers are perfect people who have a plan for all the things. To err is human. We all make mistakes, misjudgements, assumptions. It happens. Get over it.

Any issues with the ordering of stretch goals is a relatively minor issue. It's not worth the constant butthurt that's being expressed over it. Like many things, this typically points to some other, larger issue at hand which in this case is the extraordinarily presumptive and entitled views that people have been lauding here.

Let me explain how I see this.
    1. They aren't required to give you anything.
They aren't! You are asking for stuff, why do they have to give you anything? They're making it more fun and adding more incentive to pre-order. If they had said 'OK thanks for the money thats it!" They would be normal devs. However they are adding things for the fans. So you are saying you don't want extra content. That won't change the release date. So I think I'm gonna go with the non release date changing extra content.
    2. Why is 1 million more important?
People are saying that the 1 million stretch goal should be better but why? It would have been acceptable if it had been 500k! So why should 1 million be more important? You haven't given them 'more money' and the people here haven't given 'more money'. New people have payed the same amount!
    3. Vanity Sprites
They aren't. And as someone who is neither one who is 'trying not to hate', a brony, or a furry, I am actually offended. Why can't it be a good idea? Whats wrong with having a companion. Let me paint this: You have been travelling for several months now, never staying on one planet for more than a few days. You can't remember faces, or names the only stable part of your life is a small fuzzy creature! It makes it less lonely! And I believe they state each one will have purpose (or something similar). A quote:
They’re not quite strong enough to fight horrifying space monsters like their randomly-generated monster counterparts, but they make for lovable and useful companions all the same!
It states useful. USEFUL. That means they will have some non game breaking ability, something like having pack space, similar to how each race has its own 'ability' ie Glitch increased mining speed ect.
    4. Better suggestions.
Well there might be to you, but maybe we don't all think the same. While the majority like pets, a death-ray starfish most would think is OP. And it is. But really if there are better suggestions then mod them in later. Remember the whole 'Steam Modding API and Support' stuff? Yeah.
    5. Bronys and Furries.
OK look. Do you have an actual problem with them? Why cant they be good people who make good choices? It really isn't fair to lump them all together with 'bronies and furries are really bad'. Not all! I know bronies who make actual good, reasonable decisions ABOUT PETS IN THE GAME! Why do you have be so mean to them? They're actually people! Amazing right! And they have feelings and opinions just like you! Maybe you should be more careful.
These are a few reasons that you have to consider before making something like this.

I seriously don't understand what the big deal is.

I am seeing a lot of entitlement here. You paid for a game and a soundtrack + whatever else you deemed worth it. Stretch goals are a thing that is in place to motivate more people to give more money. If you don't like the stretch goal... don't give them more money?

You paid for a thing. You are getting that thing. Don't act like you are entitled to have more things.

Pets are an extra thing that you are not required to like or dislike.

Excuse me if I'm whiteknighting, I don't mean to. But be realistic, reasonable, and polite for a second. This thread will go nowhere but incessant bickering. Molly wrapped up her thread quite reasonably:

But apparently some people still aren't satisfied and still want to complain, and it's been carried over to this location.
Some people have tried to be reasonable and as the thread was intended, suggest alternatives or give feedback. What the forums did was not how you deliver feedback. They were insolent, rambling about things which would be impractical to implement into the game, much less into the initial release, that THEY wanted and whining about how they didn't LIKE the thing they were getting.
I don't blame them for not changing this. And to all of you who don't like it or don't want it:
Is your answer. It's optional, and enough people want to see it that you are going to have to suck it up and deal with their presence in other people's playthroughs, as if that could offend you. What you demonstrated and continue to demonstrate is not how you treat devs. who have been so sacrificial and considerate of their playerbase. Many of the forum-goers who were complaining didn't even read the thread's beginning post explaining things or bother to research what was already planned to be included. You aren't funding these directly. They're practically extras--you bought the game, and these are practically extras. No one owes you anything. That's where it ends:
Any new features are a blessing, and you should be thankful they still want to add another reward after this kind of behavior. You're not owed anything--you already got the game, early beta access, the full soundtrack, and two other awesome additions to the game. And you gave them crap for this insignificant further goal that they wanted to give to their supporters of their own volition. The people who were cursing at the devs. on the stretch goal page should be ashamed of themselves.

Why do you care? I mean, it's not game-breaking. You bought Starbound. You are going to get Starbound. How the fuck does little sprites make a difference? They don't even HAVE to have a Stretch Goal. Would you rather them just take it away?

I think IndieGamerRid's post sums it all up, we need to stop arguing, it's optional. *Pulls out fire-extinguisher* let's put out the flame war.

You say that as though I'm not aware of it. I took that into consideration and still don't think it excuses them.

Actually no, it points to the fact that we're all disappointed and were hoping for something better, so we're complaning about it. Also a human trait.

I think the pets are kind of blah, but it is extra. It wasn't originally going to go that way. Whatever benefit it does or doesn't have will be "just for fun."

Mmhm, with our feedback in mind.

I'll be honest I probably wouldn't have cared so much if they'd just done it rather than giving us the illusion of listening to what the community had to say about the stretch goal.
