A thing about the Stretch Goal

Brosef, I'll say this once because I've been through the process you are right now and it will end up the same way:

Developers do not want to listen to reason. Reason takes effort and resources, critical thinking and analyzing. Developers want to pander to an established fanbase that laps up whatever decisions they make without second thought or criticism. You could suggest the best damn idea in the world, back it up with facts and arguments, but as long as Mollygos or another developer "suggested" an easier, faster-to-achieve goal, it would be voted with no questions.

Let us just take it easy, relax and wait for release: our opinion is clearly irrelevant to developers at this point.

 

So you are mad that other people are getting something they like, but you aren't, I understand that, but really, the majority rules on this kind of thing, don't be the "stop having fun" guy.

 

I hope they don't aid you in any way. That would take away from the exploration of finding creatures to tame... Why tame when you can just start with one?

 

I'm the source, right here, bucko. I'm stating as a consumer that I think that this isn't worth the one million goal. But it's not just me, it's hundreds of people, and before you say that my, or anyone else's opinion doesn't matter because of X reason, it does matter, because this is a product we paid for. We are all entitled to a say in it, our opinions matter in this situation, and the collective opinion from hundreds of people is this:

They are not worth being the one million dollar stretch goal.

They did say somewhere that its another system different to the "taming" mechanic for monsters (i guess they wont fight), and they also mentioned that they wont be just vanity items.

My guess is that they could work as a "tamagochi" pet, you have to take care of it (not like the monster you tame im guessing), and maybe they have some helpful skills that work outside of combat.

 

If it's irrelevant, why are they asking? You're in the minority, and you're disappointed at that fact, that's fine. But don't act like your desires are somehow superior simply because they're yours.

but still, it was 2:1 for, I'm sure there was something they could have done to get everyone on board, but Its too late, this is the same thing that happened on the terraria forum with 505 games, everyone raged for a week, then realized it wasn't important at all.

Why do people keep bringing up Pokemon?

 

Both of them are important, they stopped because they realised redigit was going to do fuck-all. I hope the starbound devs don't go down that path.

 

I would only wonder whether it would have been worse in the present situation for the developers to throw the idea of pets away, as (regardless of their reasons for voting in favor of pets) it appears the majority of those who voted backed the idea? Seems trashing it would have caused *more* grief than keeping it, so I'm not sure that keeping the idea indicates the devs have disregarded anyone's opinions. Attributing the value to $1 Million is perhaps more questionable, but I won't touch that here.

 

Well you are given a starter monster in pokemon, but still go get better ones, and have lots of fun, its a pretty obvious parallel

 

Solution: Move stretch goal to 800/850k, open up suggestions for something that is both useful, worth the one million goal, and quick to make for the next stretch goal.

 

You're right. They aren't worth a million dollars, because they don't cost a million dollars. They are merely a PRESENT for if pre-orders DO hit a million. People don't HAVE to keep spending money, and this isn't about spending all the money possible just to hit a million.

Can people not realize that not everything has to be OMGAMAZING! when it comes to something like this? You're already getting what you pre-ordered for; the game. Not everything has to be SUPER USEFUL in a game. Having various kinds of options is a good thing. You want to have a starter pet follow you? Okay, fine. You don't want a starter pet to follow you? Okay, fine. The option is there to have for if somebody wants it. In a game where you can farm, explore worlds, collect countless weaponry and items, and everything else, why is it that one single little thing such as 'Starter pets' gets people going 'It's useless! It doesn't add anything!'

It DOES add something, as small and minuscule as it may be.

To reiterate, the pets indeed are not worth the one million dollar goal because they do NOT cost that, and are merely a small present for if it does hit that much.
