A thing about the Stretch Goal

In the main thread, molly said that "we're not going to add useless junk", but isn't the entire point of these pets being that they are essentially useless? They're walking vanity sprites.

I can understand not having any ideas for a one million stretch, but why not just ask the community before announcing an idea if you're not sure about it? A large chunk of the people voting yes come from a couple of "groups". There's the people who don't want to look as if they're "hating" the devs and vote yes, there's a group that legit thinks that regardless of the idea's actual merit if the devs think of it, it's a good idea.

Then there's the furry/brony crowd, which is (most likely) the largest crowd because it'll give them the possibilty of adding ponies/furry things into the game to follow them around. These are not very good reasons.

There are literally hundreds of different, very good suggestions out there, why not do those? If time and resources are a constraint why not hire someone to do the assets like the novakids.

There's also another thing, this, while being a perfectly acceptable stopgap stretch for 800, 850k. Is in no way worth being a 1,000,000 dollar stretch goal. I understand you would be pressed for going and doing an "awesome" one million dollar stretch if you did this, as you've stated before. But we are all aware that the beta is at least a month away, and you ARE going to break the million barrier before pre-orders stop. Anyone, including you guys (you're smart people.), can see this. What are you going to do then?

I'll break this down as simple as I can:

    - The game is already funded.
    - However making new stretch goals that actually demand effort and more money is undesirable.
    - Therefore Chucklefish adds easy to complete stretch goals that mask development costs while allowing them to keep all the money.

    Considerations:

    - Yes, they do deserve the money.
    - No, it is not an honest practice.

    In closing:

    - If you browse the forums you'll see that no matter what happens, they have a legion of fanboys backing their decisions up. Do no try to argue any further.
    - There is nothing we can do now. Stop making threads or try to argue, developers aren't listening to reason, but rather the loud majority in the forums/twitter.
    - Hope the game is released as planned and then enjoy it far away from the community, I know I will.

  3. As said in the Topic Itself, they are aware that it it's something a bit useless and that some people are disappointed with the Goal.
But they promise those big contents for after launch.

That said and only the Fact they said that shows and make me Trust them for the Future of this game! ^^

It'd be stupid to not try to argue, though. We can't give up just because we're outnumbered.

All it takes is one good point that one dev sees.

It'd be nice for a dev to give a bit of input in this thread.

  6. What about a mini Cthulhu to follow you around? :chucklefish:

Well, I'm also not a fan of the "furry/pony" vibe. It's not my thing at all and I hope it doesn't get into the game. (Sorry to those who enjoy it :zombie: )

Nevertheless, I do like the idea of these starter pets. I'd like them much more if they had an ability, perhaps one unique to each type of creature. For example, an amphibian critter could catch fish. :p

Yes, they acknowledged that it's useless and they have other things like big updates. But that Does not change the fact that that it's useless, and not worth $250,000.

I'm not mad at anyone at this point for having issues with it, I just can't keep entertaining these Threads. If they felt they could do more at this stage they would have offered too. I believe they picked what they felt comfortable with, I can't say that I am annoyed with the idea but I'm not begging and pleading for it either. Either way would be fine with me.

It's a good thing you're not paying 250,000 for it then.

I think pets are a fine novelty, but that's just what they are, a novelty. I, nor anyone else would have a problem with it being an 800k or 850k stretch, as that's fine. But this is in no way worth it as the one million stretch goal.

EDIT: There is ALSO the fact, that I forgot to mention in the OP, that there's also a monster system planned where you can tame and keep them as pets. Making this stretch goal even more redundant.

All of the tamable things are monsters. Without starter pets, how else am I going to find a normal looking ladybug to follow me around.

    It's a sandbox, roleplay a bit.

They are using the same system, starting pets are just really weak monsters.

Stop using the "They're not worth a $1,000,000 stretch goal!" argument, that obviously isn't working in your favor and is only causing hate.

If you like the idea of starter pets, fully support it as a stretch goal.

The only people who should be fighting it are those such as I who are against starter pets. Allowing us to start with them makes pets less special and even annoying. Finding a rare and awesome pet is something to brag about, but starting everyone off with their choice of vanity pet is just lame.

Now Mollygos mentioned that they would be more than just a useless vanity pet. If she means that they have any sort of aiding ability, that completely removes the "optional" part of them.

    Hey guess what?

You paid 15$ for it, not 250,000.

And if the majority wants it, than the people giving them the most money like it, thats just good business

Except they're not really weak monsters, if they helped out at the start and you could upgrade them or give them tasks, that'd be pretty nice and maybeworth the one million if they did it right. I'll grab the quote from the official stretch goal page.
See? They aren't really weak monsters. They're essentially sprites that follow you around

You know it's possible to play a game without being absolutely optimal in every way, right? The only thing that would remove the optional part, is if they literally removed the optional part.

Here's hoping they have some sort of non-combat functionality then, something that, while not affecting any sort of competitive PvP in any way, serves a useful purpose that sets them aside from the tamed monsters.

You seem like the sort who doesn't play on hard mode.

This isn't an "all or nothing" support situation. They would be -fine- as a small goal for 800-850k, but they are simply not worth being the one million dollar goal.
