It could be so that we can actually "glue" things together to make them strong enough to be worthwhile. Think about it: Gold and Silver are much weaker than iron, so why are they better? Because of how we arrange the particles using pixels.

Confirming this , one of the chest drops i got was literally a "laughable spear". :poo:

I don't mind the pixel system , they aren't too hard to get , i used the pecker ( from the name i guess this is an avian-only weapon ? I haven't made any other characters so i don't know) which is a short range dagger type weapon which does huge damage , end went into an avian dungeon , after only a few kills i was at 1200 pixels and i died before i could kill everything and get all the pixel containers. It's really easy to exploit those laser gun wielding guys because if you put a block between you and them they will frantically run into it in order to get line of sight with you , making them easy to rush with a melee weapon.

The pixels should ONLY be used for the 3D printer and buying from NPCs. I should not need pixels to make a damn suit of armor.

The one thing that they should have taken from Terraria is being able to store money, which in Starbound's case, is pixels. That was an amazing feature in Terraria, and it would do well to see it's way into Starbound. Tired of losing my shit all the time.

I think Pixels are great idea, and I think that when you die you lose a percentage of your pixels makes sense. The problem that I think is happening is that these pixels are required to craft items, and I think that's the problem. Pixels should only be used to make items from the 3d printer and buying stuff from NPCs.

Monsters should be dropping the neccessary stuff that is needed to craft the items. Right now the only difference between planets I can tell is that the monsters look different on the outside and the stuff the drop is identical. This is not fun, because what's the point of going to another planet if the monsters are just the same as the other level 1 planet, but different skin ?

I thought the whole point was that you could discover and go to planets that have unique monsters with unique drops.

For example, lets say on planet one you have a blue tiger monster that drops the regular stuff that most monsters in that class drop, leather, but lets say 50 % of the drops of this monster are a unique drop, like Blue Claws (Makes sense right, the tiger has claws). And this blue claws combined with lets say a Regular sword makes a Blue Clawed Iron Sword, it would have the attributes of an Iron sword, but with the blue claws, it could add plus 2 to attack power or something.

To further add to this idea, this will mean that this particular planet has this paritcular unique item or is known to have it.

    What's wrong with pixels?

    1. "I keep dying and losing my pixels and I'm frustrated!"
    - well it seems the death mechanic is flawed then, not the currency.
    2. "Craftables cost too many pixels!"
    - Yes, possibly. But at least you WANT the pixel rewards; imagine if monsters just didn't drop anything. No exp, no $$, basically just a constant nuisance.

For the former, being able to store pixels, as some have suggested, would probably help. Worked well enough for Terraria didn't it? Might have to be tweaked though, who knows... maybe you lose a much smaller percent of banked pixels? Just a thought. I would hate to see currency abolished altogether because of a large player outcry, because I feel like that would be a solution that would just lead to other problems for many players, but if we keep throwing constructive suggestions and feedback out there I'm sure it might be of some help. I feel bad for devs sometimes

Grinding for pixels is dull and not the gameplay I was looking for.

What if you don't want to go on killing things all day? What if you just want to explore and enter combat just to defend yourself. I find pixels make combat boring as hell, because it forces combat to be non-stop all the time if you want to get anywhere...

I find it is also frustrating to be sitting on top of bajillions of ingots of all types but not be able to use any of them because I don't have enough pixels. On top of that, It just makes no sense.

Sorry for the rant but I strongly feel that the pixel system needs to be rethought. Myself, I am going to be putting the game down until it is, I just don't have any tolerance for grinding.

All this will be moot after tonight's update. Starter armor won't require pixels anymore, and the pixel costs of everything else is getting lowered. Including the death penalty.

The other thing I want to say is that I don't think combat difficulty is the problem. In fact I really love how deadly the combat is, I find it thrilling and I'd say I give it thumbs up.

The problem is the pixel grind, and the fact that the player has no choice about it.

Edit: @ RizzRustbolt, Okay, glad to hear that. I guess the only thing I have to say then is that otherwise I like the current combat balance.

IMO, the biggest problem with the pixels is that they just disappear. Unlike terraria, your dropped money doesn't stay where you died, allowing you to recollect it. It would almost entirely solve the problem if you could regain your pixels by getting to the place you died (and getting back out again obviously). Storing pixels would probably be too easy, unless the storage space was limited and/or hard to get

I actually like the pixel system, as it makes the game a bit more hardcore (BTW, I racked up 600 pixels by taking a stroll through a Glitch village). Also, I think Campfires sell for 200 pixels? Or is that something else? I would like to see those little pods and enemies drop a few more pixels, but I like the 35% loss on death and the high costs. It makes me really scared to die.

I agree with a lot of what they said, especially the part where the death penalty of pixels is WAY TOO STEEP. It's a TON!

I typed this post with one hand because you are so edgy my other hand got chopped off

If it is true that you can sell items for pixels then it would be much less of a problem. I haven't been able to figure out how to sell items to merchants though. My main issue with the pixel system is that it forces you to go out on a killing spree just to be able to build stuff, and that there is no alternative.

Because in borderlands2 the money is not necessary. Weapons are necessary, and they won't lose.
