Now 99% of our discussion has been very positive, we love the game (especially the banjo and keytar! Rock on!) but there's a common theme of upset amongst our community and that's PIXELS. This is a select batch of complaints from large community- our dedicated Starbound thread has 100+ readers at the time of writing with 8'600 posts and 450'000 views. That is LOTS of people. So please, don't just brush this off as a minority opinion. This a large chunk of the playerbase who are all very vocal and passionate about the game despite not even being released for 24 hours.

Pixels are unpleasant, pixels NEED to change.

You forgot to mention that you pay pixels to put things into the pixel printer, then you pay pixels to get the item that you paid to be able to make.
You pay pixels to pay pixels, in order to get your item back.
    Flawless.

Personally, I don't have much of a problem with Pixels, save for that you pretty much have to grind to gain a sizable amount. I think it'd be a bit better if they dropped in slightly larger quantities, or something.

As a side note, I heard in a pre-beta stream a day or two ago that the amount of Pixels you lose upon death is 35%, although I've no idea if it's true.

I really don't like grinding for pixels either. Considering I already grinded the mats for things I wanted.

If they at least let me store pixels I would feel a lot better about this. I would actually like that. Still lose pixels on death, just not your main stash. It's way too harsh

Having to pay pixels to craft items is a bit silly if you ask me.

    So true.
I put design choices (?) in my complaint thread because I cannot believe it is a conscious design choice that an intelligent developer can make. It must be placeholder for something, it must be!

  7. There's nothing wrong with the pixel system in my opinion people need to cope with having to die a lot early on in a video game, just like I did with Rogue Galaxy.

I agree, stashing the pixels would be a great solution.

My problem with pixels is the fact that you can't store them anywhere, as in you can't craft a pixel bank or anything like that, let alone putting your pixels in a chest. That, and of course, using pixels for literally every single piece of equipment you can craft in the beta. Hopefully they change the pixel thing a little bit. By "a little bit" I mean a lot.

I'd rather see items from the main inventory drop on death than pixels.

For me it's not about the dying, it's about every way pixels are used being entirely opposite to what one may expect from the lore.

  12. I can agree with the pixels cost for regular items should be much lower than the cost to replicate with the 3d printer.

Did people complain as much about Borderlands 2 and losing so much money on each death?

As far as I can remember, you still have I high chance of getting great items just by killing monsters and opening chest. Which doesn't seem the case with Starbound (at least with my experiences).

Yeah. I've only gotten extremely terrible items so far from chests. I don't really understand why they bother putting in weapons that are worse than your starting weapon. It just kind of makes no sense.

  15. I just can't tell if these are actual gripes about a fully released game? Or if these are beta suggestions. People paid to be beta testers, no one was tricked and the devs shared their ideals they were instilling in the game: Challenging, exploration, crafting, etc. People are still somehow surprised by what they got is my thing.

Yes pixels need to be tweaked a little. Loot drops too.

Not just much lower. There is no reasonable way your character could hammer 3D printer ink at an anvil.

  17. Miss Andry

so are we not allowed to complain about things because its a beta or what

no one is saying they are tricked, and no one is demanding refunds. Don't over exaggerate things, please. People expressing frustration to dumb game design is completely normal and is something that should be expressed.

  18. You can't complain about a beta, no. You can make suggestions, point out bugs, but literally no one wants to hear people whine about something that they had all the time to research and that chucklefish stated was a beta and would be buggy in this phase, and everything else.

    Constructive criticism? Yes.

    Suggestions? Yes.

    Bug findings? Yes.

    Workarounds in the meantime? Yes.

All things people want to know, devs want to hear. Being profane, rude, and entitled is a different story. It'd be different if the company didn't explain in detail how beta would work and the different stages of beta.

But as much as I don't want to believe it is, the problem is still likely a conscious choice. Someone spent their time coding how pixels are spent on places that make no sense, someone must have brought up how annoying that is, and some devs must have spent time discussing it so that it stayed until this stage.
If such a stupid design choice stayed for so long then people who hate it (like me) need to be more vocal. Try not to be profane, rude or entitled, but keep bringing this up.

Pixels aren't the problem, the unforgiving mobs in the game are. It's not even that the game is necessarily difficult. It just so happens that mobs using certain abilities (Charge, for instance) are an an absolute pest to hit without getting hit right back, thanks to the fact that even touching them deals a tremendous amount of damage.

That, and everything simply does too much damage. I should not be dying in 3 hits to a level 4 mob on a level 1 planet, wearing iron and silver.
