Speaking of well thought out; I'm also personally waiting/dreading to find out what the people who somehow dropped exorbitant amounts of money on the preorder options proposed to the developers for their item contributions. Just tell me what bizzare furry/homestuck/mlp tumblr-cultured nonsense paraphernalia people succeeded to get into the game with their money so I can take the bullet and go home already. It's making me anxious to know.
I saw some of the weapon suggestions, and they don't seem that horrible. Besides, I'm pretty sure the devs would just say "no" to those kinds of weapons, since they constitute copyright infringement.
I voted #3 for much the same reason as quoted: While I don't mind having animals as playable races, I fear that if the devs added a "furry" race, then people would keep asking for more and more, until the game's majority of playable characters consisted of animals found on Earth, rather than unique creatures forum users, devs, and/or players come up with and submit. Personally I don't think taking already-existing species of animals that we see every day (such as cats and dogs, for example) and making them humanoid really matches up to the creativity that Starbound advertises and promotes.
Well I'm quite content with my florans, who are -technically- Furries of plant life. The term Furry originates from the idea of non-humanoid races of a bipedal nature that didn't descend from apes, but rather other sentient, intelligent life. Sure, there's the usual stigma of people bashing furries, furries getting their tail all rustled up, but what it all boils down to is segregation and ridiculous misconceptions. I won't shoot down 'furry' races. It gives me more variety. But as they've already outlined that every race has its own 'feel', from spaceship down to special craftable armor, weapons, etc. More races would be cool, yes. But that just makes more work for the staff. Maybe after the game releases, some new races could be added.
From both sides, really. The fandom isn't any more innocent with not shoving their ideals into someone's face than people hunting them down are for being overtly vindictive. Common decency, what's that? I digress. I'm all for well thought out racial suggestions, even if they're based on the furry fandom's favorite mammalian avatars. I just haven't seen many that make a good ambassador in my opinion in the board. Potentially the Liberi? I'd be actually interested in Caledscratch, truth be told.
My honest opinion is "If you can dream it, you can mod it." Why ask for furry races to be put in officially when you can mod them in? Additionally, don't the Apex, Hylotl and Avians already count as furries? And to a bit more of an extreme, don't Novakids count as anthromorph space gas? Something to think about.
I agree. It's more likely to get new anthropomorphic races via modding than it will be through official additions. Just wait for the modding community to start up when the game is released, and we can have whatever races we want hopefully.
I thought a "Furry" was just a person that liked to roleplay as some sort of animal/animal-person. (for varying reasons. ) so wouldn't that mean Apex/Avian/Hylotl/Florans are all (at least sort of) Furry races already? Don't get the point. EDIT: Sorry, didn't read, just posted, so, yeah.Apparently everyone has made the same points I made, so unless I'm missing something, I just don't follow the question there already are "Furry" races. and it doesn't bother me, whatever you're into, be into it, if it doesn't hurt anyone else. lol
Look, I don't give a rat's ass what anyone does behind closed doors, but can we stop trying to so arbitrarily inject our fetishes into everything? I'm fine with a "whatever" race or character, but let's not have it for the pure sake of having it. You don't see me going around asking for a hermaphrodite race and dual gendered characters. Also, why is this thread still going on? It has been pointed out that THERE ARE ALREADY THREE ANTHROPOMORPHIC RACES. And I have no problem with that, I think they're all really cool just like any other well done race. Point is, we don't need to throw in a cat race too just so you can get your rock's off to Starbound.
See, that's the great thing about Starbound - you can mod it yourself, so that I'm not forced to write them into the lore. Because that's never happening.
Furry. Indifferent. There are already avians, so I'm pretty much covered. I don't think starbound should make any new races to cater to any specific crowd. I'll be clear on this: I'm gonna play as an avian, obviously, but my enthusiasm for starbound wasn't dampened in the least by a lack of 'furry' races. I'm quite content playing as a human or a robot. Avians are in the game, whoop de doo. I wasn't about to ask for them, but at the same time, I'm happy they're here.
Though now that I think about it the idea of sentient cats with thumbs piloting humanoid robots as a playable race tickled the hell out of me. Just cause I like cats in general
LMAO EDIT: I think youtube has shown that all people like cats, and that some people lie about how much they like cats.
