Okay, excuse me, but this is my first post so if I make any mistakes please let me know.

I haven't seen this idea yet after scanning through the forums, but I thought it would be neat if there was some sort of neat device you could either find or build that would track your location and map out the planet you are on. Kind of like a GPS, but also with the ability to scan the creatures you see on your journeys. This could add a whole bunch of new opportunities especially if you were able to scan other tools like this to add to your data base. Let's say you're in a ruins or you just killed a bandit or something and you find one and upload it data and it reveals like maybe a bosslike monster on some other planet, or it give you the full map of the planet including loot locations? Just an idea, please by all means build upon this.

that would be handy, heck, you could change it to a Mass Effect style Omnitool. You can store any amount of information on it, from what you've reccommended but also things like blueprints, starcharts, and other stuff too. It might also serve as your interface with different crafting devices, explaining why you have a GUI for the things, perhaps you have a slot for it and you can change them out (which would not affect the information stored, it'd be assumed that you transfer all that over to the next tool.) Other things that it could do might be laying down wire, controlling your ship functions, deciding what color your lasergun's beams are when you shoot it, the default color of your armor when you craft/paint it, keeping a record of your interactions with other people, such as quests, the list could go on and on and on.

I'm wondering if some of the functionality will clash with what's been announced for the logbook, but I still like the idea. Just don't call it a Pip-Boy, or Bethesda will sue. ;)

It could be a good idea to be able to upgrade the logbook, what do we think of that?

Might work, might not. It really depends if people want (or, more importantly, need) the additional features right out of the gate, as opposed to acquiring them later on.
