A noobs journal of Starbound.

Okay, so I thought this would be a cool idea. Since I miss being a noob in Terraria, Minecraft, etc etc. I thought I would post a topic of my very first character so I can nostalgia about it later in time. I've been busy for a while, happy to finally get the time to do this.

Since the whole ship, time speed up thing. I will not be measuring each entry by Day/night cycle, rather I will be doing it for a random amount of time. Each cycle in order will just be reffered to as ''Entry#''
This is a completely blind playthrough, I have not even clicked on the app even though I bought it a while ago. I wanted to make sure I would be a 100% noob for this; Reading it will help me nostalgia

My first character I know this picture will be probably my hardest nostalgia pic.
A pic of my planets in this solar system, I didn't know if there was more? I was hoping for a massive universe

Me learning the controls and interacting with everything on my ship to learn it.

I found a chest Inside was ''crappybroadsword'' But the sword was not crappy at all! It two shot almost everything! It hit a bit slow, though :/

I got a crafting table out, Interacted and made it my mission to make a bunch of that stuff. I studied the items and what to get for about 20 minutes. Than wandered another 40+ just to figure out what a Plant Fibre was, my face when I figured it out xD

*snore snore*

great idea! my first character was a blast! wish i did something like this to look back on lol.

 

Couple starter tips:

Hold shift to mine or place a single block instead of multiple blocks.

You can use ore to repair your pickaxe by right clicking the pickaxe with the ore.

You can hit Alt to show your hunger bar.

Watch the little gauge with the sun on it; it is your warmth, and you can freeze to death. If your screen starts to turn white, drop a campfire or a bunch of torches to warm back up.

does only copper work for repairs? i try every other ore with no luck but anyways... need ore quick and easy? go to desert planets and mine out the fine sand and gravel that collapses and you'll find yourself with a heap of all sorts of ores and such and maybe find small planets to explore quickly since you can get around them quickly you'll be able to find pirates or structures easier with less worry if you die on the way since it wont be such a great distance....... i like nachos

 

The only ore I use is Copper, since it's the most regular, but the only one I've tried that didn't work was Iron. i assumed only ores that can actually be made into pickaxes can do the repairs, but I don't really know.

 

TY The first one about shift helped ALOT when building on my ship, I found out that you could do that when i tried to place dirt I'll be posting more in just a sec. All the tips I've used since I read the post except repairing my pickaxe, I don't think I'll be keeping my stone pick very long. Lots of copper in the Forest.

 

Yeah, there's no reason not to upgrade your pick to the best available at each opportunity since you can repair it indefinitely

 

atm I'm saving up for a copper pick. I wanna get my Floran armor before I use the distress beacon. So much foreshadowing scares me, probably nothing good comes of it.

 

:-0 you might be able to just find a copper pick thou i guess it wouldn't take long to mine the ore required anyways just try desert planets and dig the fine sand

 

My first character was recorded on Youtube. I got about 40 min total, but now he's gone from the Annoyed Koala update. My first non-Youtube character was the victim of a weird inventory rollback from the Irritated Koala update. My character after that had about 25 hours of playing to his name, but he's gone now - another victim of the Annoyed Koala wipe.
The way I get through all this grief is with this phrase: "It's better to have played and lost your save than to never have played at all."

 

I think you're right about the copper ore being the only ore to repair. I've never been able to use anything else. I'm fine with it though, because I always have too much copper.

There are more planets in your solar system. You're just looking at a single Gas Giant and its moons - hit right-click to "zoom up" and see your solar system. Do it again for your local sector in the galaxy.

You can place items using right-click, which will place the blocks in the background. This is useful for building homes that aren't open! The block might need to "connect" to another backwall or foreground object first though.

You should consider exploring other planets before you craft the distress beacon. There's plenty out there for you to see!

 

Better pic = faster mining = less time diggin = more time adventuring.

 

I think my poor use of a double negative may have thrown you; No reason NOT to updgrade your pick
