    • Would the filter change with weather?
    • How would the filter detect you are in a house? Detect the background blocks?
    • Would different house materials modify the filters in different ways?
    • Do you think the filter will need to be optimized so it can be done on the fly with minimal impact?

    1. Absolutely. They DEPEND on the environment. Rain stops, rain filter clears up. Then a sunny filter may come in.

    2. Whatever system is used for the weather could be attached to the filter system. The rain/snow is only outdoors, it's in a few screenshots. It would work the same way. I assume the background blocks determine that. Imagine walking through a cave and it opens up, some background blocks missing, and a sun glare shines through it.

    3. I'm not sure. It's entirely possible technically. But I'm curious how that could be used beneficially.

    4. Filtering is post rendering, and surprisingly easy on systems.

This is an amazing idea. I'd like starbound to have options for tons of effects so I can use my computers processing and graphics power so that I have the most absurd graphical starbound experience ever.

I'm sure someone will make an instagram filter mod eventually ;)

Not a fan of the lens flare, but other than that, I do like it.

Cool, might not fit the art style.

  8. That's a cool idea. :) I imagine it'd effect performance on lots of PCs, though.

I really don't think it steps on the art direction of SB. If anything it makes it pop. It COULD be pixelated itself. Um, wouldn't really know how that'd look though.

It isn't as tough on machines as one might expect, or even notice. Fancy graphics options please!?

Its what every red blooded human being wants!

Ehhhh. I wouldn't mind this as an option maybe, but not the default. I have an older, kinda crappy computer and apparently it and my video card absolutely detest full-screen filter effects.

I will admit that your examples are intensely pretty. Not exactly fitting with the art style, but still, pretty. Honestly, I think this might make good mod material, if it would be possible to mod in.

I think graphic style of this game is amazing and retro. Of course these effects are nice but in my opinion they dont fit this game.

Man! Thats one freakin' beautiful idea! I dont know why others say NO and its BAD and for OLD PC's cannot handle it...

Okay If old pc's cannot handle... then fucking turn off IN the options menu. Thats it! Win!

I really want to see those cool effects in game... would really make a big graphics change for newer pc's!

That means it will have better graphics then minecraft and terraria... MUCH Better!

This gives them a very nice look really! More colors and realistic graphics.. Man i love it and hope it will be in game!

Nothing wrong with the old school look but A simple filter does wonders! I like the idea of games with this style being pushed further. good idea cruelly.

I saw it and ABSOLUTELY love it... This is going in the right direction.

The idea that the surroundings effect the visuals is exactly what I like to see. A red dwarf casting a red tiny is my idea on steroids. I vision was completely narrow compared to what the Dev team has essentially created.
