You'd be surprised what humans can get used to and ignore. (I'd post a bunch of studies right now, but that'd make this post about 14 pages long.) I don't think that there'd have to be any fadeout. But I would like a slider for the filters rather than just a button, that controls how powerful they are. Also, a switch that fades out the filter as more or more threatening enemies appear on screen would be nice too (Since this is supposed to add beauty and realism to the game, it's pretty easy to justify, when you're scared out of your mind, you generally ignore how cold or how pretty it is).

Eh, I'm not a big fan of gradient tunnel-visioning everything. I'd prefer them much fainter if omnipresent, or clear enough to not obscure view if they're rare enough to draw your attention to something. As-is, the edge fading makes me think I'm in a cave all the time, and very variable zoom levels will make it worse. If the fade scales to screen, it looks like your tunnel visioning clarity radius is being tuned up as you zoom out, and if the fade only scales to a ceratain in-game distance around the character, it looks even more like a outdoor cave.

World of Warcraft wasn't really subtle enough, when changing zones the filter would click over like a light switch, which was bad. Diablo 3 has a bit better transitions, but they're still noticeable somewhat. The best game I can think of that did things right was STALKER and its radiation filters. There were a few normal filters for outside, but the really noticeable ones were in labs and ruins where your eyes started to crawl and the color drained from everything as you wandered deeper into the radiated parts of the Zone.

Well honestly, and I think you'll agree with me on this, the effect has to be greatly exaggerated on still images as compared to anything that shows motion. In order for me to show intent, even the scaled down reasonable levels have to be dramatic. Something such as a blur, which I used heavily, has to be one of the easiest ways to show vision impairment. But the edge blur is more than enough to produce desired effect. Completely engulfing the screen in it is too much.

I love this idea, especially the filters on page 4 - subtle is best with filters.

I like the idea for things like weather effects to have filters such as your rain pictures causing a shaded effect or the snow causing the subtle blue and edged blur, really nice. Though the irradiated one I am not really a fan of, seems too grainy to me but other wise this is definitely a great idea.

Glad so many people approve... now all we need is someone who is in with the Dev team who can convince them to throw it in as an option...

How about you open more threads crying about how the devs don't notice you?

    This looks freaking awesome.
I'm not sure about the snow one, but all the others? Epic. I would love this, it adds to it all, and it makes you feel like you're there. It makes the world seem more alive, more real, and more awesome.
Yeah, this should definitely be an option, especially for those who have slower computers, or if someones eyes get tired and they want it off for a bit.
I'm all for quality, but just as long as it's an option.

Wow really? Hmmm. The snow one is my favorite. It's actually what gave me the idea.

I mean, I don't see much difference on it. I don't really understand why it's like that either, but I'll reread it :)
Not saying I dislike it, It's just not my favorite
K, relooked at it, and it looks awesome. Probably didn't fully like it because I was on my laptop, but now that I'm on my big desktop, it looks really good. It was also early in the morning when I saw this and posted that.

I love to find beautiful moments and places, both in games and in real life. I find this to be a fantastically wonderful idea, and I would love to see it implemented into the game. The Sorcerer approves
Wow, I haven't said that in a while.

I actually like some of those filtered screenshots. As long as the effects are not over the top I think it would be cool.

I suppose that I am. I never really thought of myself in that way. I also just realized that a lot of words with a French origin apply to me. Curious...
