Name: Ghost Fox Habitat: Usually resides around ruins, dungeons, graveyards, shrines, dark woods and rarely around a player's grave and underground. Abilities: Is able to clip through solid surfaces, shed light wherever it goes and to ignite things it goes through. Threat Level: Medium if non-hostile. VERY HIGH if hostile. Behavior: Normally ignores anyone, but may attack if provoked or may randomly give chase to whoever wanders around its territory for too long. Attack: Means of attack usually includes creating fire towers, shooting fireballs, tackling and turning into a giant fireball. Whatever you do, you DO NOT want to get hit by the fire towers or the giant fireball. Really, you don't. Like: It usually likes any kind of "offering": from food to objects. To make an offering to it, you need to drop something within its territory and wait for it to come to get it. Once satisfied, it will not attack you anymore. Should it reject... Well, just hope you didn't give it any reason to hate you. Dislike: Don't get resources when it is looking your direction. Specially if its eyes starts glowing bright red. If you do, it will chase you. If its eye is glowing, it will attack you with a FIRE TOWER. Possible variations: Some may look trasnparent, others may be colorful, others may be of a different color, others may have more tails, other may have more wisps. A very rare variation is a NPC Shop one. This one can never be harmed, features a backpack and may ask you for a specific item that, if you give to it, it will reward you with a rare item or with money. Obtaining as Pet: In rare cases after it dies (1% of chance, actually), it will leave behind a single wisp once you get one, you can craft it with a gem to create a pet version with your favorite color. Also, a wild one can become a temporary pet if they appreciate the offering, but the chances of it becoming a temporary pet are low (about 5%). Pet's Attacks and Functions: As a pet, it can only attack by firing fireballs. Its functions are to go through walls, fly after the owner in the form of a wisp (if the owner is too far) and to shed some light aroung the owner. Beware: if it dies before the owner, it will be gone forever. After the owner dies, it disappears and waits for their respawn. Also, the Pet is only one-tailed and has always one wisp. Temporary Pet's Attacks and Functions: It will not only have the same full-power attacks, but it will also help you gather resources. If you show it a resource for five seconds (by selecting the resource and resting the cursor over the fox), it will track the resource if it is nearby and will retrieve it for you. When it is attacked by the 'owner' as a temporary pet, a wrath bar will appear. the "wrath bar" decreases over time and, if filled, it will instantly get hostile toward the 'owner'. If it dies in combat with another creature while being a temporary pet, it has a higher chance of dropping the Wisp (20%).
Bumping to let people know I updated its info. EDIT: And, yes, I made that sprite in Photoshop with less than one hour.
I really like this idea, and i'd really like this to be in the game, but wouldn't kitsunes be unoriginal? i mean, it's highly unlikely that you came up with the idea of kitsunes all by yourself. EdIT: Clarified my meaning
Well, I've never seen, in any game or anime, a Kitsune that shoots fireballs, clips through walls, is possessive about territory overall and that makes a shop. The closer cases to those were: XXXHolic: The Kitsune Father and Son own a Ramen Stand car, but they are seen wolking on two legs all the time Megaman Zero: Kyuubit Foxtar Does shoot fireball and turns into a giant fireball. But the later has it split into five and float about the room, not really fire. And, Yes, just remembered of this right now. Zelda: Keaton, only makes a Quiz. That's about it. It is a real shame they don't do much other than quiz and stealing. Only those cases that I remember that may relate... But... Doubt they relate enough. Ah, yes, kitsune are very common in oriental folklore. To the point it is the media that "copies" the folklore. There are many stories about them, some being very curious, other very intriguing...
yes, i agree that your kittsune is original, and a very nice idea, with a great sprite to go with, but being me, i know a fair amount about jap fokelore, in whice they do most of the things you describe, this along with the fact that animals are naturally possesive about territory.... but enough with that, you responded above and beond what i was looking for, if you are willing to testifiey in such depth that your creation is original, then it is oringal enough for me. a slight suggestin however, if you befrend it, you could have it eather 1. not get mad at you 2. become a temporary pet ( but still wild) 3.drop a wisp thanks for reading.
