(( Hello there, and welcome to the thread for my first Starbound story! I will update / edit this first post as I write more and find errors, so be sure to check back every-so-often if this interests you. )) > Searching Files for "Captain's Log" > . . . > "Captain's Log" located. Continue with overwrite? > Processing Request . . . > . . . > "Captain's Log" Reset. >Welcome aboard, Captain. Please proceed with your audio-based introductory input. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Concerned: My Item Number and Manufacturer are unable to be recalled. The only thing I remember of myself is the name given to me by the ship's crew. They referred to me as "Recon". Defeated: After much searching, I can confirm I am the only (...living?) being on this vessel, and thus, must accept responsibility as its new captain." >Begin Entry 01. The star-date is currently unknown, thus I am proceeding with my first written log. I can no longer see the bodies of my once admired comrades, for they have drifted too far from what's left of the ship. I am out of fuel. I can only hope that the ship's reactors survived the raid. As happy as it makes me to be what I can only assume is "alive", I still have what must be regrets... I knew not how emotions nor loss felt until we were boarded, so many earth-hours ago. My processor is swimming in its own sorrow, recalling what it can. I was unable to save my crew-mates. My internal sectors were so slow that all I saw was my captain... No, my friend, dying before me. The alarms were sounded, our airlocks were breached, and shots were fired. What was once my home was now my prison, floating in space as the aggressors flew away, having found nothing of value. Upon recalling these events, I now know how the feeling of depression. My purpose is no longer to serve until replaced. I have given myself a new directive: Survive long enough to slay the crew of that Cruiser. I know not its name, I know not its operators, but the footage of that ship, as it was leaving my view, will forever remain in my damaged memory banks. I will have my revenge, and I shall begin by re-initializing this ship's main systems and running a diagnostic on all computing subsets (my own included). Once this has all been completed, and the ship is stable in its orbit, I will beam down to the planet below, and search for signs of civilization. >End of Entry 01. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > . . . > Scanning... >Welcome Back, Captain Recon. Please proceed with your log. >Begin Entry 02. I wandered the surface of that planet for what seemed like five of its solar/lunar cycles, and have learned many things. The metallic trees found there have allowed me much in the way of modification and repairs to the ship, as well as a small amount of protection from the native inhabitants - almost all of which seem hostile. I was attacked by four of the five species I encountered, and was able to dispatch them with ease - all but a swarm of small, blue, winged creatures that destroyed my transponder. Repairing myself was statistically improbable, yet on the third "day" of travel, I found a small settlement of what I scanned my logs to know as Apex. They were friendly enough, referring to me as "Lucky", but they confuse me with their talk of a "Hive-Mind". Do they not know I was built and maintained by a human crew? Perhaps it's for the best they do not. My logs on the relations between species are corrupted, and inaccessible for the time being. As I was stating prior, they seemed to have only the best intentions in mind. They even laid me upon a repair table and fixed my broken transponder, allowing me to once more communicate to the ship's transporter. They offered me a free repair table to move on-board, but I declined - my holding chamber is already programmed with my diagnostic tools and specifications. Upon further processing, I regret turning down their gift. The systems on my ship are still heavily damaged, personal maintenance chamber included. I will function with more caution on future ventures, but for now, the low hum of the ship's lights and the beeping of its control consoles make me feel... Safe. I will use this to try and learn the feeling logged as peace. More upon next entry. >End Entry 02. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ... Darkness... Despair... Hatred... Revenge... All of these new thoughts flowed through my mind as I awoke for what felt like the first time in years. I was in a mere husk of what my ship had become - floating through space once more as a chunk of metal with a soul. The Apex had turned on me when the dawn fell - they boarded and demolished my ship, taking many of my auxiliary parts with them. I would never befriend another - this much was clear. They had made themselves out to be hostile, in my mind. The only things I can remember from the encounter was the whirring of the ship's alarm - the cries and sirens of the AI's systems being ripped from her in a brutal fashion, and the feeling of something heavy striking the rear of my processor, putting me into stasis. That, and the Apex Scientist. The same one that offered me the table stood over me, chuckling in an evil fashion. Now in a floating rock of a spaceship, I proceed towards the next planet - hoping to find what humans refer to as greener pastures. I will produce more information when the time arises... For now, I have a ship to repair and a planet to explore. I only hope that the teleporter still works, and that my personal transponder takes no more damage.
Thanks for the reply! I posted this more as a test to see if people were interested in this sort of story. It's not so much the classic fanfic as it is a journal for said character, so I could see why others would just pass it over. Well, I'll certainly get back to writing more (Though, probably not until after the Holidays. ). It's always a little easier knowing that someone's actually read / reading it! Thank you for the reply!
Giving a bump so as to announce new content. I figured that'd be better than making people scroll through comments to see the story they clicked on.
I'm defintly interested I may make a similar story if I ever get bored and feel like it P.S. by similar I mean the journal thing I wont plagurize you if that's what it sounded like
Thank you for your interest! I'm not too worried about plagiarism, honestly. I don't own the rights to the game, nor am I monetizing this. That, and part of writing a story comes from having your own fresh ideas and whatnot that you feel excited / motivated to write about. I'm actually more than pleased to hear you're going to (even potentially) try your hand at writing one.
writing a journal of your starbound adventures is a cool idea. however all my story would be about is stabbing and stealing...
We all have our playstyles, I suppose. One of my friends enjoys the musical instrumentation, one of my friends can't wait to create complex wired mechanisms, and I enjoy writing my own story. I guess that's just part of Starbound's charm.
Bump for a new (if short) entry. I'm back in action. Edit: Tons of free time on my hands nowadays - if anyone would like to be a part of R3-C0N's adventure, please hit me up with a PM, and I'll toss you the server info.
