A general perspective shift from the community...

Alright, well either way it's still just a work in progress so far, not just small tweaks

 

Feels less like a beta and more like a late-alpha. It does not take a beta tester to find some of the glaring bugs we are all finding. During this late-alpha stage, the highest priority is stability and crash fixes, core mechanics, and revealing broken code. I am happy to have participate in this stage and get a sneak peek into what to expect, but I also wish the devs ran some internal testing before throwing it out there. Kind of a waste of time since the bugs are so obvious and don't require feedback. Gonna come back in a week or so and hopefully do some actual testing to find obscure, hidden bugs that take effort to actively seek them out.

 

I still think you are misreading my tone. I am not criticizing or policing anything. I'm just to explain that we have not purchased a finished product and than getting upset and throwing temper tantrums like someone has cheated us, is not a correct response. I am in no way a Fanboy, nor am i suggesting that everyone post as if they are. We just need to look at this game a work in progress and treat it as such. If we get an idea that we think would improve the game, then post it. If there is part of the game that makes no since, then we should post our opinion in whatever colorful language we feel fits. But the devs deserve our respect, just like anyone else. They have given us the gift to participate in this Beta. We should be more respectful.

 

Posting complaints about how you don't like character wipes when they are clearly outlined as being necessary for this part of the beta is not a "legitimate complaint". And towards any other complaint/feedback I have seen plenty of threads where people have discussed in a civil manner the suggestions or complaints people have brought up. It is not the fault of the OP if all you seem to notice is flame wars and people saying no to complaints/suggestions. Some complaints are brought down reasonably because a lot of the community disagrees with the complaint, which is a valid reason as to why a complaint might be ignored.

Not all feedback is going to be accepted by the community and newsflash: the majority of the community is what decides what is relevant. This post simply outlined what people already SHOULD HAVE KNOWN. This is a beta and while feedback is both welcome and necessary. The term feedback does not include WHY CHARACTER WIPES? Or BIRDS OP PLZ NERF. Post sensible, constructed arguments as to why you think one way or another so the community CAN discuss. Often flame wars are started simply because the OP didn't even try to make his point clear and instead insults half of the playerbase right off the bat.

Lastly, it's not your job either to come on here and tell the OP his post is pointless. So why did you even bring that up?

 

I have been want to make this exact topic. People need to quit whining about the game and just live with what they are given.

There must be feedback for any improvement to be made. But whiny complaints are not it... constructive criticism is.

 

See this is a problem, the only counterargument you've given so far is completely off-base, you keep talking about trolls, talking as if they're people that should be talked to, reasoned with, brought into the light..... I can only assume you're very new to the internet if you think that endeavour is anything but a massive waste of time.

Anyway I'm done bumping this thread, if you wish to insist that trying to talk sense into these people is worth the time and effort, well, I guess I was wasting my time here, ironically.

 

I thought we were thanking the devs for their work here, and trying to drown out the constant noise of people whining about everything. You know, using rational thought and common sense to combat misinformation and blind emotion.

But I guess we're "policing the place." My bad.

 

I am too! Fallout made me want to get into game development... 16 hour days for 6 weeks straight made me go into digital production though. Ha!

since this thread is pretty much troll shelter, gonna change the topic for just a sec since you mentioned fallout -- DH40K i highly recommend you check out fonline:reloaded. it is basically fallout 2 online.

so what? The Devs are big boys (girls). Im sure they already expected that some people will holler and complain with every change. Maybe its YOU who needs to get a grip on what to expect from this type of open beta.

No matter how many post you make saying "this is BETA" people will still complain. Its their right, they paid money. Just roll with it. The devs already know how to seperate the real issues from the whiners. If they didnt want to piss off and disappoint a few people, they would've never released it this way

 

Again, it's not the complaining that is the problem. It's the lack of respect that is a problem. If people want to be stressed out and get angry over a product that isn't even finalized yet, then so be it.... they'll die faster anyway and not have to deal this cold cruel world full of disappointment.

 

There is a massive difference between providing constructive criticism vs the endless complaints that people are throwing around (which we've all seen).

Saying something is shit and not saying why is not constructive. Saying you don't like something and not giving reasons why is not constructive. It doesn't help anything.

There are far too many posts that take a far too aggressive tone from the outset or run along the lines of 'this is broken therefore THE ENTIRE GAME IS DOOMED AND I HAVE BEEN RIPPED OFF' - not helpful. Not constructive.

Just a shame that well-reasoned and constructive posts tend to get buried under an avalanche of 'AUGH CHARACTER GONE' or other related posts.

Also, some people seriously need to work on their communication skills.

 

exactly. SO those of us who are level headed should just ignore these people and accept that it comes with the territory when you have a paid open beta. The same way we ask them (futilely) to accept that this is a beta and there will be bugs.

 

Please stop being a white knight and let people complain. There is a difference between being entitled and stating an opinion. Minus most of the malicious posts about save wipes and the like its important for the devs to know what the community thinks. Because we are beta testing we have the chance to make the game more to our liking. So if we sit back and do nothing and say "eh its beta" nothing is going to change. If no one complained about pixels or the balance system nothing would have changed as the devs are working hard coding the game and really dot have time to test it.

 

Suggestion = Good
Complain = Good
Complain + Suggested Fix = Better
Whine and moan about beta being broken, because you think you're a VIP = Stupid
Insulting Chucklefish before game is released = Just Wrong

It's not a paid open beta. It's a closed beta that you got an invite to as a bonus for pre-ordering the game. If this was an open beta, the Devs would have no hope of ever getting any constructive info to help build the game.
