Race A Community Experiement: Let's Construct Potential Races Together.

Egypt has, as an entity, existed for thousands of years and experienced a great deal of change. Pre-Islamic Egypt might not have had much in common with what we think of as the 'Middle East,' but after several Islamic caliphates (including several that ruled from Egypt itself), I think it's safe to say that Egypt is pretty thoroughly 'Middle Eastern.'

You aren't wrong at all. I'm just trying to point out that Egypt has a complex and beautiful history; civilizations often absorb what has come before them, and the Arabic caliphates are no exception. Hence the scarabs association with the Middle East.

Because I am so horribly unoriginal, let's do some kind of quadruped insectoid race based on the Strogg.

Also, I've noticed a lot of discussion of insectoid, Middle East-oriented races... I personally think this is a great idea, very well-designed and thought out. This too, although from what I've read they seem to have the intention of collaborating and squishing their races together into a big, awesome one.

 

Doubt it would make it as a legitimate race but it seems more fitting as a mob or a pet if anything.

 

While I would love to see something like this implemented as a playable race, I don't know if it would be possible. I doubt we'll see anything in the base game veer from a humanoid body, if only for ease of programming and design. Back when I played WoW, I remembered a lot of people insisting that Centaurs be made a playable race. A dev eventually responded and said it would be unlikely, because they're unusual body shape would back it difficult as far as skinning equipment. I know they're not the same game, but I would imagine that a similar problem could likely plague your poor jellies.



Deep down, I'll keep hoping I'm wrong though, if only so I can entertain the notion of playing as Blasto.
