A Bit Unforgiving?

Nyello What do you get if you multiply six by nine?

I saw this mentioned in another post and thought that maybe it should have its own thread. (Sorry if it already does). Does anyone else think that the game is a little unforgiving when it comes to collapsing in the mines? I would accept losing some gold and maybe losing one thing that I found in the mines but losing tools seems a bit harsh to me (and some others :nuruwink:).

I, myselfhave not been able to acquire a second prismatic to even get the galaxy sword yet but if I lost it I would definitely be just starting over from the last save. It's a wee bit troublesome IMO.

I agree, it does feel pretty unforgiving for a game that has so few penalties. I pretty much just alt-F4 every time it happens. It would be nice if there was an option to adjust the mine penalty.

Seems to be a common line of thinking for a lot of players, of course there are always the hardcore group who defend that the current system is perfect the way it is. The money loss and losing knowledge of floors I can understand and agree with, but losing a RANDOM half of all your items in your inventory?

        Calm down Satan.

Yeah. I lost 26 items from dying in the skull mines D= I noped right on out of that.

I only collapsed once in the mines and noped right out of the game after reading the message about losing stuff. My spelunking proceeded carefully thereafter as I tried to avoid situations where I get mugged by 3 slimes and 3 bats all at the same time. Losing a significant number of items, but more importantly the tools, is a heavy loss.

Especially when your weapon is not exempt from that rule. I tried to suggest, in the suggestions forum, that we could at least make the weapon be treated like the "required" tools, but they got all Dark Souls "git gud scrub" on me. *sigh*

As if they don't immediately close the game and re-open it if that happens anyways.

That's exactly what I do. Alt+F4 as soon as I die. I don't even bother looking at what was lost, because I know I wouldn't accept it anyways. I don't even wait for the death animation to finish.

You don't lose tools -- if that happened to you, I'm pretty sure it's a bug.

(Swords aren't tools tho, and you can just buy a replacement)

Yeah, I'm going to waltz into the adventurer's guild and just buy a Galaxy Sword, sure... why not?

Perhaps it's been changed as of the more recent patches, but I can confirm that in at least 1.03 you could lose tools from passing out in the mines. Was the only time I perished, lost my pickaxe, Lava Katana and a bunch of other assorted goods from the Skull Cavern.

That's good to know. The only other time I've lost my weapon was when I was selling all the acquired items to the adventurer's guild. I auto-clicked every non-grayed item including my primary weapon noticing only after I left the building...

Sure, losing the galaxy sword would suck, but you can grind for prismatic shards -- I have three extras.

Oop! Apparently getting the galaxy sword only works once, according to another thread. That really would suck, if so.

Yea, you can only get one galaxy sword unless you save file edit

After looking around, I found a steam discussion where a person was wondering how they could get the tools back that they lost in the mines. An iron axe to be exact. This was posted March 18th. I haven't played for about a week and a half but I'm still keeping tabs :nuruwink:. Anywho, someone replied that any lost tools (not weapons) should reappear beside your bed the next day after sleeping. Not sure if 100% true though. Still, it definitly seems like you can lose tools.

Having never once collapsed in the mines, no, not really. Just... keep an eye on your energy, and if you haven't any food, leave. I.. .really don't grasp why people run into issues with that. If it was dying in the mine, sure - I've had some close shaves, but I've always gotten lucky. Collapsing though? Dirt simple to avoid.

AFAIK, the only tools that respawn are the unupgraded ones. Or at least that's how it was when turning tools into Clint was bugged (the game thought you "lost" them).

So, imagine what you'd feel if you lost an Iridium Pickaxe and an Iridium Axe, wake up and you get the starter pickaxe/axe.....

You only lose items if your health reaches 0. If you Collapse from fatigue or sleepiness, you don't lose anything but gold.
It's pretty hard to die if you're well-prepared and keep your health high, especially once you have the slime-keeper ring, but some items simply shouldn't be lost, ever.

I personally would only like to see that all items that cannot be reacquired are exempt from being lost. That way we can at least reasonably say that it may still hurt to get knocked out, but we don't have to reload the game.

I meant collapsing fron low health not fatigue. Sorry if that was unclear.:nuruhappy:

Oh, well, it's still easy to avoid.

                                      Works like a charm.

Only in the mines tho, if that is to be taken literally.

Alt+F4 still is the best option. Then I lose NOTHING. (Other than some wasted time)
