I got StarBound immediately when it was available, I downloaded it and got on my space ship I saw the si-fi look I was pleased by that, but then I found the Anvils, Crafting Tables and was saddened, I felt it did not fit the si-fi part of StarBound. I'd like it if you could have a "System block" of some sort that you put on a wall and you place the crafting table anvil etc in it and it has the properties of that block and it has the si-fi look. I think this is a high hope but I'd like to see more of that futuristic aspect of the game. Not replacing the Items completely, just having a option to have more future looking things.
As the game progresses, you can start to make complex tables, and tools that begin to look more futuristic.
What about this isn't awesomely futuristic? Just look at those lava-tubes. How could you say no? Or this robotic crafting table? I mean, c'mon. Robots are part of this thing.
Not really this, however it does look cool but this resembles more like a dwarven forge from Middle Earth. lol.
Got any suggestions? It's still beta, you know. Maybe you could get some input. Personally, I think it's alright, but if you can think of something more to your taste, go right ahead. Keep in mind, though, that we already have a few ship interfaces that deal with 3D printing, techs, a bit of storage, and the creature-capture processes. Those're sci-fi-y grey tech-panels. Even in my Hlyotl ship! And in the future there may be a gun-crafting table or something, I don't really know. Where do you think the design should head with this?
Hmm, well you would think in a sci-fi world we should be able to replicate almost anything in the 3D printer. Like instead of needing to smelt ore in a forge you can just use it as the raw materials needed for replication or printing.
That's very star-trek of you. Still, that would greatly reduce the steps required to make anything. Which, while nice, does take away so much of the reason to go out and explore, no? That, and I'm pretty sure I'll only accept the idea of a Floran using a 3D printer to make simple things.
Well we can say that to be able to 3D Print things, you need the base raw materials for said items.... For example a tent, unrefined wood for poles or some type of ore for metal poles - x amount fabric - x amount or Tech items gold for contacts and wiring various metal ores for casings etc... So you'd still have to go out and farm mats like before, also we can make patterns/schematics/blueprints discoverable only through exploration. And technology unique to the planet.
I'm a bit mixed as to what you're recommending here. I believe you're suggesting we feed materials to the 3D printer to get tents, but then you're asking for the crafting to be more complex. Are you suggesting we make the things the 3D printer already makes no longer consist entirely of pixels, but instead be built of its constituent parts, and then have everything be assembled at the printer?
Yeah so what I mean is that have it so that in place of pixels, it would require the use of the base raw materials of whatever it is you're trying to create.
