A Beanstalker's Call to Action!

IT'S TIME TO GO HIGH!​

First thing I thought of when Tiy showed off the the Asteroid biome in the upper atmosphere of the world I said, "I want to build my base THERE!" And that's what I plan to do. But it's more than that. I've been on reddit calling out the need for starports, space elevators, and all sorts of mega construction.

Sky bridges? Darling, we have Orbital WayStations!

I was kicking around the idea behind this. Not quite a Clan, more like a...calling!

I'm a BEANSTAKER, a proto video game space engineer who wants to bounce in his L.O.B. (Low Orbit Base). You could call us Jacks climbing to the heavens to take on giants of or imagination and helping others up there!

So this is my desire/my code:

1. I will build space elevators on each of my worlds. Be it carbon nano-tubes, a crazy metal platform, or just rope dangling to an asteroid. One way or another I'll help myself and others reach the Asteroid Biome.

2. I will build Starports and friendly planet side lounges stocked with goodies for help other enjoy the wonder of high orbit pressurized play pens. The more the merrier. Be it suits, grapnels, you name it, I'll stock it. I'll do this on every world I mine resources from while on multiplayer servers.

3. I will help others build that massive crazy space structures. We too will build simulated O'Neil Cylinders in the skies above so everyone can marvel as the literal floating gardens!

And most of all I'll build crazy, awesome, space related junk and post pictures for everyone!

So do you feel the call of an Orbital Ring? A Dyson Sphere? The strange rotating ring worlds calling to you?

It would be complimentary once I get rolling.

I debated forming a Clan dedicated to volunteer work in space aging up worlds, but the calling of being a Beanstalker is more than that. It's a desire to go crazy with massive tech projects. Kinda the same reason why people love Kerbal Space program. You just love to do it. But post beta invite me to your sever and I'll bring my tools!

Mind you I might make a Clan of like minded people. But that would be like StarJacks.

Yeah I toyed with the idea of a sub-orbital/upper atmosphere base.
But then again I toy with all sorts of ideas for bases.
If I can clear out one of the flying Avian dungeons I might modify that in to a cool Bowser-esque airship base (depending on limitations) But if I can create artificial biomes then my base is going deep underground in a desolate planet.

Bah who am I kidding, I won't know until I find it

That sound's awesome. I'll put one of these on my home planet. I shall call it New Babel. It will pierce the heavens and bring honor to the Hylotl name!

 

A calling indeed sir, as soon as the beta is out I shall follow the ways of the bean stalkers littering the sky with metal structures as far as the eye can render.

To ring worlds and space plants, our dysons will shine brighter then the sun , and thus we shall have to build dysons around those too.

 

ill get in on this only if we can get a group of people to recreate The Restaurant at the End of the Universe

Hmm... does Starbound even have a Elevator type thing? Rope? etc?

And btw sweet idea, my original idea was a Half Under Ground half not, City with NPCs and stuff... and my home up on a hill or floating in the sky, and doors so i could lock the lower part of the city, for protection... and s*its and giggles *cough* erm... and... protection.... and.... protection...

After the update with Tiy and Asteroids i want a Space Station City

I keep wondering if I can pull off HALO jumps using the grappling hook from a space station in the Asteroid Biome.

That said, I'm pretty sure SOMETHING can be built to allow people to get from the ground to all the way up there. Just look at some of the homes in recent pictures. They have ladders. That's going to be one hell of a ladder, but if it works.

If you noticed from Tiy's "Long Way Down" video he was in a suit up there. That means like underwater bases I think Asteroid Bases will need airlocks and sealed walls. Otherwise, they'll be suit only affair until those features get added. Personally I'd love to see if I could grow trees up in a mini biome base/cylinder way up there.

 

Forgive me for being extra lazy this evening, but IIRC I saw a post somewhere that hinted at, or flat out said things like teleporters and stuff would be in, for easy access and waystations, like getting from an underground base, to your surface base etc. This would be an easy way to get from the surface to your floating fortress of doom awesome.

 

Awwww. Doesn't mean we can't build massive crazy huge towers connecting a series of waystations and teleporters with ladders and grapple lines.

And stuff might be elevators!

 

You mean a ruins but was built with high technology?

 

Or just a crazy big castle with a massive metal sky tower jutting out the top of it going to a stone and aluminum sky base. Castle Voltron on Steroids.

 

Damn I like the way you think, MostlyJoe! I had lost the will to build before reading this call to arms (tools?). I'm in!

Especially for O'Neill cylinders! I might try to recreate the Hive from Neuromancer.

I HOPE airlocks are required. If not, they are going in anyway. And of course I'll probably build an orbital solar farm (hooked up to an Evil Space Laser). Rings are problematic because they will just be flat sky bridges, but I can live with that. Oh there must be a structure to house an AI. And a...! Also ...!!

 

I was thinking being a beanstalker was also about community support. Helping out new players. Offering up good planets seeds, starting resources, and "barn building" like parties when a bunche of Beans show up building a tower and asteroid base for someone...including the exchange of a pet "cow" and such.

 

....Huh, Interesting idea. I like it. Maybe build that giant space elevator from Bubblegum Crisis (minus the insane boomers).
