This will be fantastic! Whenever I play these kind of games where all you want to do is loot everything, it is helpful to be able to sort it all. :DD

I like the extra inventory space, but then again, it would make more sense if there was a bag slot in which you could put extra items, rather than having 3 inventories at the same time at the beginning of the game.

Just my opinion, no offense :/

Another thing, while Im here... PLEASE make the Log Blocks craftable (I want to make a Log house), thank you.

Like adding the healing gems in the Dark Souls 2, this can just change the way how the game appears.
    DS2 is much casuler.
+ There IS an option - use the darn regeneration tech.
    Also.
There is much more than just "tent" there is a big pile of beds you're talking about. Timeskipping is useless in Starbound since now farming needs your straight attention.
About "useful" functions of the beds - Chuckles could add the tiredness so you have to sleep, but I think you will just start whining about how useless this is (even I would do it).
Also, in some updates tent was making the player invisible for mobs when he's inside it. I don't know if it still works.[DOUBLEPOST=1439136311][/DOUBLEPOST]
Imagine looting your first planet with 16 inventory slots.

Yeah, not much, but then again. I mostly just took the crystals to repair the ship. After that I just stored everything else on the ship. Later on when I had a few weapons, items, ores then it became harder, but later is later and by then you would probably allready have a bag from a quest or something...

    I reinstalled Windows...
Damn, :C I just found out that Starbound doesn't use Steam cloud. I lost about a week work, made a large house with tunnels and stuff on the peaceful planet. Had my ship upgraded to 3rd stage (extra ship at the back and larger pilot room). Had containers full of processed ores (violium, rubium, diamond, ...), in fact, I had so much stuff that it was a headache to sort it.

Some people starts maraudering BEFORE they repair their FTL drives.

Sad to hear your problem... At least you learned something new. >_>

Can we get some sort of expectation on a final build? I like the fact that there are so many updates, the game is looking really great from an art perspective, but I really would like to know is when will there be a completed release? None of the updates really go into detail about it. Is it something we'll see in 2015, 2016, etc...

There is a lot to which I could respond so I will take only two topics.

Inventory sorting: a majority of people will love this, and I am likely to be one of them. Without having tried it yet, I imagine my only request would be an option to auto-sort incoming items. My only inventory annoyance prior to this, actually, is that vanity armor does not stack. When I am exploring any given biome, I often find two of the same item. Items without durability should stack, or nothing should stack, in my opinion. This is a small annoyance, but should be a relatively simple fix -- because after years of hoarding in games, I am not likely to stop now.

    Inventory size:

When it comes to inventory size limits, realism is at odds with playability and likely always will be. When I think of different inventory management systems I have seen in games all the way back to pre-WIndows days, I cannot think of any games I have played that stood out above the rest as the "best way." Some systems had no clear limits, some were based on weight, some on item size, some on item counts, and some on multiple factors. The inventories limited by item size seemed fair (except that stupid coffin in MM7 that took nearly the whole backpack, but...kind of realistic), followed by those that calculated total item weight, with a combination of both being most realistic but least playable.

The human factor is a practical limit on the number of little inventory boxes we can look at before it becomes tedious to find what we want, so the sorting is great because then each tab can have fewer boxes.

Related to that is stack count. I suppose it should either be a really high number and we favor gameplay over realism, or we calculate the weight of all items and limit inventory that way. Anyone who wants higher stack counts under the current system can install the mod that provides that.

Anyway, thanks for the sorting capability!

I have to agree on the idea of making Vanity Armor stackable. Since it's purely cosmetic, I'm not exactly keen on it taking up so much inventory space. If we ever get the option to outfit NPCs, being able to store multiples of a particular outfit easily would be super-helpful. (I'd kinda like my guards to have, if not a uniform, at least something akin to a general look of my choosing.)

Aside from that, I'm fine with the game's stacking and suchlike as it is. I think the 50% boost in carry space is about what we need for hauls, and with the Flags becoming temporary warp-to beacons, it'll be easy to beam back to the ship and drop off loot then return to the last point (well, if you're above ground, at least) to come get more.

I'd really not be keen on any weight-based whatevers. It's not realistic, but this isn't a game where such "realistic" touches would really work. (In my head, the Matter Manipulator is converting everything to data/energy/whatever and thus the storage is more about memory/battery than "how heavy it is"... loosely. Very loosely.) It fits for the gameplay goals, and that's most important.

    Dear Devs,

i have a small question, where are the picks in the nightly? i made an anvil JUST for a pick (and the MM frags are too OP) and there was no pick to be seen! plz return outrageous pick prices and pick ore repairs! i would much prefer that amazin' thing! 'cause picks were worth it back then!
another thing i just thought of when i was making this message was admin NPC editing! a hidden item could be the NPC editor with a sprite of a random weapon, like dat tree hammah. what the NPC editor does is able to change the sprite (or upload a sprite from a custom sprite folder) and make quests.
i hope at least 1 of these come true, my most wanted is the outrageous pick prices plz.

    thanks for reading,
mitz (and his ill brother (AKA broken main) comet)
    PS:
pop comes the ideas! add in debuffs like staying out in the night too long (but not on warm planets) gives you a frosty debuff (which comes in at about 1-2 min after staying outside without any metal armor) and a hungry debuff. they both weaken your character's melee attacks and shortens range of ranged bows. also slow down your character. but neither kill your character, just debuffs.

I love this new feature, but I just found a bug with it on the nightly. I tried crafting a stone furnace while I had all the right materials, but the game said I didn't have a campfire until I moved it to my quick select bar. I think it wasn't checking my inventory properly, because the campfire was in a different place than usual?

    Love the new storage space.

On the topic of storage space, any chance of equitable bags in the future?

I have an idea for them.
Unlock one new slot for a bag/pouch/compartment through S.A.I.L. per ship upgrade after repairing FTL Drive.
Like the Matter Manipulator upgrades, each would require materials from your current tier (and possibly diamonds) to unlock.
    It could be something like:

    FTL Drive Repaired
    └> Belt
    └>1 slot
└>"A belt you can attach a bag, pouch, or compartment to."
    Sparrow Class
    └>Utility Belt
    └>2 slots
└>"A sturdier belt designed to hold more bags, pouches, or compartments."
    Kestrel Class
    └>Bandoleer
    └>3 slots
└>"A shoulder bandoleer that can hold more bags or pouches than any belt."
    Falcon Class
    └>Bandoleer With Belt
    └>4 slots
└>"Why not combine a bandoleer over the shoulder with a belt across the waist? Smart."
    Eagle Class
    └>Bandoleer With Utility Belt
    └>5 slots
└>"Why stop at a belt when you can make it a utility belt? Brilliant."
    Condor Class
    └>Twin Bandoleers
    └>6 slots
└>"You have two shoulders, why not wear 2 bandoleers? Genius."

There would also be the possibility for Twin Bandoleers With (Utility) Belt variants available for future ship upgrade classes, or if the tiers were to start earlier than FTL Drive Repaired.

Also, tiered bags/pouches/compartments with more storage per bag/pouch (+1 storage per tier for Humans, if Human racial is still storage), but requiring tiered materials.
    It could be something like:

    Tier 0: (2 Cloth+1 String)
    └>[Racial] Small Bag
└>2 slots (3 for Human variant)
    Tier 1: (4 Cloth+2 Iron)
    └>[Racial] Bag
└>4 slots (6 for Human variant)
    Tier 2: (6 Cloth+3 Steel)
    └>[Racial] Large Bag
└>6 slots (9 for Human variant)
    Tier 3: (8 Leather+4 Titanium)
    └>[Racial] Small Pouch
└>8 slots (12 for Human variant)
    Tier 4: (10 Leather+5 Durasteel)
    └>[Racial] Pouch
└>10 slots (15 for Human variant)
    Tier 5: (12 Leather+6 Refined Rubium/Aegisalt/Violium)
    └>[Racial Material] Large Pouch
└>12 slots (18 for Human variant)
    Tier 6: (1 [Racial] Chest+ 8 Ferozium/Cerulium/Impervium Compound)
    └>[Racial Material] Small Compartment
└>14 slots (21 for Human variant)

If further tiers come out, they could require [Racial] Large Chest, [Racial] Cabinet, etc. (or without future tiers, make the blueprints endgame quest rewards)

Descriptions would vary by race of course. More intelligent races might comment on how small bags must be small because they are secured with string, while the higher tiers can be larger because they are secured with metal clasps. Also, maybe some races comment on the compartments being like wearable chests.

Whereas there could be a slight HP/Energy increase with Tier 5 pouches and Armor/HP/Energy with compartments, when you consider that it could be stacked 6 to 8 times (or possibly even further) by endgame, that could get overpowered and require re-balancing the game. Perhaps it is best to make them like the tier 5/6 weapons; essentially identical but available no matter which progression route you choose.

Also maybe some loot-able bags/pouches/compartments (depending on planet tier) that hold a bit more, but can only hold certain types of items (e.g. a seed pouch that can only hold seeds, a clothing bag that can only hold clothing, an ore compartment that can only hold ore, an ammo pouch that can only hold thrown weapons, etc).

Possibly Holsters and Sheaths that would only hold one one-hand gun or blade respectively, but would add its contents to a new quick bar slot, and Large Holsters and Sheaths that take up 2 bag slots, but do the same thing for two-hand guns, staffs, and melee weapons (staffs would go in large sheaths).

The comment of Sergun169 reminds me of a little comic i ran into once on Google, It has a woman talking to a tentacle creature saying stuff about hoping some thing from Starbound is released before space travel becomes real then next part of the comic shows space travel having arrived and she said nope still not out, Some thing like that any ways.

I did make suggestions? In an appropriate thread? One about inventory? I cited the problem I have, mentioned a game that I felt didn't have the problem, then gave advice on how to fix it more tailored to this particular game. :wut: Or are you just a Terraria hater who was looking to pick a fight? :p

You should really make a thread in the suggestions subforum about that, I love the idea!

So let's say I'm very particular about the order in which certain items are sorted. Is there or will there be a way to set the sorter up the way I want it to work or at least exempt some items from getting shuffled around?

If not then I'll still have to move everything around manually anyway. Which is fine, I guess. It hasn't killed me yet anyway.

Leave the suggestion in the suggestion thread then, and link to it when you want to reference it.

And I pretty much solely hate Terraria for the community. You've probably not seen half of the "terraria is hundreds of times better" hate that I have seen for Starbound - given that I already wasn't interested in Terraria, it just compiled.
