Im not saying it isn't ambitious or big... And I said I liked the idea... I was stating I knew what the person the post was referencing was talking about when he posted what he did... If you want to attack someone, attack the right person...
Reminds me of Metriod, I hope it has momentum physics, that'd be a lot of fun to play with! Anyways waiting for beta patiently as always.
*somersault It's French >_>' but anyway, I'm super excited for all the shenanigans those little balls will provide.
To be honest, people can't complain that much about tech abilities being copies of things from other games when most scifi/abilities have been done in other games already. Sure the morphball seems similar to Metroid, yet I don't see any talk of it letting you drop little bombs/do some pulse attack, etc. There aren't to many ideas ability wise that you can use that some other game hasn't already done (take the little dash ability we have seen, though the butterflies/heart things were a unique touch).
A dash is a universal thing Any game can use it. It's not a big deal to me, but I am kinda disappointed that they made a literal "morphball" that looks pretty much exactly like the Metroid one. Perhaps if they made it look different or something, then it would have been a lot less "rip-offish", but the truth is..I mean, cmon, look at the thing, you just turned into a Samus
havent you ever heard of "everythings been done under the sun"? Great artists know that nothings original "Immature poets imitate; mature poets steal; bad poets deface what they take, and good poets make it into something better, or at least something different." -T.S. Eliot
My guess is that the allusions to Samus were intentional. It seems like a cool (imo) homage to a classic video game series.
Yes, all we need is an upgrade that makes it act like a bouncy-ball, then all my dreams will be fulfilled.
Wow people are just looking for things to complain about at this point, this game is going so have so much different awesome stuff, and all you can do is find things to throw crap at. Fascinating.
The dash ability being universal is what I was talking about when abilities have already been done. When they have been done enough, they become universal abilities that pop up in other games (Take the regen health mechanic in the FPS genre). I consider the morphball just a different way of doing a evade like roll (literally since you are in a ball). It just so happens that only Metroid really used the morphball, and no other (as far as I know) game chose to use some ball related ability for evading/getting around.
Why this morphball is cool? It could mean there are openings or whatever that are not easily destroyable that are only able to be passed using this ability. One example, Metroid, uses this game mechanic to regulate where you can and can't go, progress, etc. These "keys" are really fun mechanic in games for puzzles and dungeons.
I'll be honest : I am still excited about beta, but yet, I'll wait for weekly updates. (inb4thesecondoneisbetaannouncementpleasemolly) Anyways, see you tomorrow, next week, or beta.
I think people have been asking for meaty updates once a week for a while now! Let the people have them!
