People acting like its a crime to assume, shooting down people saying the beta will drop in December from the information in Molly's post are making assumptions that it won't. Everything is up for grabs, we literally know nothing. So live and let live, man.
I am not a fan of the idea of weekly updates. That puts quite a bit of time between possibly announcements, which brings people down. Daily, or even every other day would be best in my opinion. They don't need to be big amounts of imformation, really almost anything and we'd be happy. Give us a "daily screenshot" (or every other day) and then maybe twice per week a bit of more substantial information and we'd be quite happy I think. Or even this schedule: Monday: Screenshot Tuesday: Screenshot, describe one or two bugs that got squashed over the last few days, perhaps update how close you feel to Beta here on a weekly basis. Wednesday: (no update) Thursday: Screenshot Friday: Longer post, information that we soak up, be it bug squashing or reveal a small part-idea-teaser. Screenshots optional. Saturday: (no update) Sunday: (no update) That gives us something 4 days per week, which would be awesome. Gives you a chance to hype the game a bit more on those Tuesdays. Gives content for people on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. Friday can wrap up the week and give people a real "think about this" kind of attutde for over the weekend. Anyways, that is my 2 cents.
Does this mean we get power bombs too? Just saying, I would be really happy if I had a weapon to rip apart every enemy and brick on the screen
I kind of like having something new to read everyday, but once a week wouldnt make me mad. Just makes me realize that beta release is at least 2 weeks ahead of us
No, secondly updates FTW! But seriously, switching to weekly updates shows that they now take their job seriously. Personally I wouldn't even mind bi-weekly ones if that means faster beta.
Well since we get the morphball capability now (which looks awesome), how cool would it be to have the Screw Attack?
These transformation powers are pretty interesting, since we can actually come with different entrances for our buildings that only players with a specific type of tech can actually access.
If your running out of things you can update us on every day then please, take a simple screenshot and post please, im sure i speak for us all that we look forward to whatever daily is posted
well as soon as I saw the screen of the day I though Metroid, does starbound have to include something from every possible popular game ever made, what about thinking outside the box and doing something new, I really hate the way the game is going at the moment and I am loosing all interest in it fast, what with all these additions and the lack of information given and the even worse public relations, it just makes me think is it all worth it in the end, love the type of game it was promising to be really held my attention, but of late nope sorry.
As long as you're not working for the Space Pirate Science Team, you should be fine. Those guys have vapor for brains.
As someone who has waited for many betas, as I'm sure many of you have, I can safely say that keeping the updates daily or every other day is the best for the game. That assumes the beta is at least a month away. One screenshot and a blurb will keep everyone content even if they say they are not on the forum. It'll keep the hype as long as the beta opening occurs by the end of the year. If the beta is two weeks or less away then one more update before that or even no updates before thst is fine. Going silent and then busting out the beta is a great reveal. And if the beta doesn't happen by the end of the year, god speed
i would like if you guys still do an update each day .. even if its just more bug fixing and maybe some new info ... and ofcourse more random picter (does not need to be animatet or show new stuff. just a random new picture) until the beta releas .. this way i now that the beta is not comming today and you guys are still alive .... how about making this whole proccess automatic ... a bot that picts a random picture from a folder and just writes and today there was more bugfixing ... thats all .. that alone is all i need to be happy and dont hang to mutch around waiting for news here
look nothing wrong with a game taking in good ideas, and have you forgotten that some of these "popular" games have done the exact same thing? nintendo constantly puts items and abilities from other games into each other. one good example happened in the early days in a game called mario rpg samus and link made an appearance although they were in beds, a fox wing from star fox and 2 F-series racers on some crates.. hell disney finds a way to put mickey mouse EVERYWHERE. the fact is if its a good idea its gonna be twisted, taken, and made a cameo by other games to help theirs improve. besides this is just one tech out of who knows how many. not to mention the game hasn't even came out yet so there could be billions of original ideas in the game.
Does a feature like that (the character becoming a ball and rolls around) have to do something with any other game? Gosh, we can start complaining about the game about the Guns (CS), Jumping (Mario), Building (Terraria, Minecraft).. I can continue forever.. Just try and live with that taking aspects from the past or other games does not have to be something bad I love Starbound and what it is becoming
I disagree with him, but I see what he's saying. This game is constantly boasting what its doing with procedural generation, and we've all heard a million times how 'big and ambitious' this project is, its odd to see that ambition taking blatantly from things that have already been done before. I do like the metroid ball though, someone said something about making bases that require this tech to get in, and I jumped on the bandwagon.
