Part 1 - Rejeptile Part 3 - Hivoid\Vespinite Part 4 - Coming Soon Welcome to Part 2 of the 4 New Races thread, featuring the new and lovable, furry Felona race! Last time, I went over my ideas for the Rejeptile race (click the link!), a savage empire of war mongers. Today, however, we shall study the magnificent Felona in all their whiskered beauty, pompous and arrogant as they may be. Biology The Felona are, now get ready because I'm going to put it bluntly...cats. That's right...cats. If you didn't realize this by now, then I'm afraid this website has too many colors for you old timer. Basically they are the third mammalian race alongside Humans and Apex, but stray away from the primary line of primates to a more exotic species. Mimicking normal felines, the Felona are basically cats that stand upright, and players may have the option of changing their ears, tails, and fur pattern between tabby stripes, cheetah spots, swirls (also tabby), tortoise, and many others, and would come in browns, greys, yellows, white, orange, reds and blues and purple (for alien diversity) and still many more. Also carnivorous like the Rejeptiles, they would not be able to digest plants very well but could still do so if they needed to. They mostly just eat fish though, and can farm milkweed and cattail plants (Hah!) as a food source should meat be scarce. True milkweed is poisonous, and cattails are just gross, so they would be considered poisons to other races and thus inedible. Advantages\Disadvantages As seen here, all races in my view should have at least one advantage and at least one disadvantage. The advantages of being a Felona are that they are much more agile, having a faster run speed and jump height than other races, although have lost their ability to land on their feet all the time through evolution for those of you who thought fall damage would be their advantage. The disadvantage is that they also lack a lot of energy, which is why they sleep so often, and thus have less energy than other races. Here I had difficulty thinking of a single disadvantage and choosing only one advantage, since felines seem to be the ultimate hunters. Agility, claws and teeth, speed, night vision, stealth, that always landing on their feet thing... see what I mean? If you have a suggestion on this, can you please tell me? Technology Felona technology is at a sort of mid-point between advanced technology and primitive traditions, putting them at a level of cyber-steam in fourth place of tech levels, just below the Glitch. Their machines would seem rather advanced in purpose, but keep to traditions by implementing a ceremonial aspect into a lot of their designs, having many gold colored parts and jewel encrusted weapons, armor, and vehicles. Each Felona starts off with a curved sword like a kukri. Now that the more important stuff is out of the way, it's lore time! Society Felona are a very kind race, but also very proud of themselves. They take pity on the less advanced races, but then try to indoctrinate them into their religion and society without much trying to help them with their technological advances, thinking themselves to be the most advanced race in the galaxy instead of the rightful Apex. Their society is a mixture of socialist republic and theocratic dominion, with every average Felona treated with equal generosity, but the priests and kings hailed above anything else (in the words of George Orwell, "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.") Indeed they tend to hold quite some hypocrisy about themselves, making the people think they rule themselves when really the triumvirate of "holy kings" make the laws and govern the people, when all they are meant to do in the eyes of Felona society is uphold the laws and protect the republic from foreign invasion. Relations with other races Felona are seen by many races as ignorant and self-absorbed, as said before they are very arrogant and think themselves the noblest of all. However, because they think so highly of themselves, they believe total war is beneath them, only going to battle with other races for a short time. They do, however, absolutely despise the Rejeptiles, a mutual relationship, for their constant attacks against the Felona republic. However they also find a fancy for Hylotl and Human culture, sometimes trying to find a mutual respect with them for their mostly humble behaviors. Again they take pity on the lesser races such as Florans, trying at a constant rate to absorb the plant-people's society into their own with little to no success. Florans thus cannot stand Felona any more than other races, to the point of open discriminatory violence. Culture The Felona culture is similar to that of the ancient Egyptians and the Greeks, with hundreds of different gods that may or may not exist (they don't). They are very close to their religion, and thus like to keep their technology and clothing close to tradition, basic robes and golden ornamental designs. Although the "gods" govern way the society changes, it tends not to interfere too much with the personal lives of the people. However, it was the gods who told them to travel the stars. Structures The structures of the Felona have an ancient architectural theme similar to Greek pantheons and Egyptian temples. The two structures are, first and foremost, a kind of large temple, a very clean white pantheon with lots of gold ornaments similar to the Avian temples but less dangerous. The temple priests are very kind and open to visitors, but the tombs beneath the temples are dangerous and filled with Egyptian\Greek style drones and mechs in order to guard the treasures and sarcophagi hidden beneath. The Templars that guard the catacombs will also attack you if you dare venture in the depths. The second structure is a large city, also Greek in design, with domes and pillars and other structures of clean, smooth marble. They have many pyramids and obelisks that are used for city defense; the pyramids fire large cannons at invading ships, while obelisks spawn little gold drones to combat intruders. At the center of most cities are large domed palaces where the colonial governor lives, a large lion- or tiger-like Felona who is peaceful but stern. The people of these structures are very kind and open until provoked, then every Felona suddenly turns into a sword-wielding or gun-toting warrior, aided by obelisk-drones and pyramid cannons. Players beware the catacombs, as is with the pantheons. Both structures are incredibly rare and only appear in Grasslands, Forest, Arid, and Desert biomes. Story Finally, we come to the most important part... your part! As told by the "gods", the Felona are destined to guide the galaxy to technological purrrrfection (That joke is so over used). So they sent out a plethora of missionary ships into the stars to convert all the people of the universe into worshippers of the Felona gods. However, something happened to the missionary fleet, where they were totally wiped out by an army of vicious reptilian monsters (Rejeptiles). Only one ship survived the assault, one ship which escaped with it's lone surviving passenger, totally unaware of the destruction of the other ships due to have getting lost and taken a different route. Ending up stranded above a strange world, the Felona was mystified by the disappearance of the rest of the fleet and forced to explore the planet to repair the damaged ship. That Felona is you. I like the idea of Cat People. Playing as humanoid cats is something that has passed over a lot of games, and it's always been something I've wanted to do. I could imagine them having no hair on their face, midsection and thighs, with thinner but still opaque hair where other races would have underwear (not pervy, you still wouldn't see anything) and catlike armor (kitten, kitty, cat, puma, panther, ect). I like. By the way, could you check out my race suggestion, possibly? The Bloonytes? Thanks.
Personally, I'm kind of tired of aliens that are just like real animals... But I think it might be just me. Anyway, the more races the better!
Still, humanoid cat aliens. Adds just a touch of cool anime that Starbound has without going overboard, and also shows it's relation to it's overall charm and internetyness.
Daz the spirit! All of starbounds concept is after all in the manga style! Have you checked out the other three races yet?
They have made bird-people, robots, fish-people, apes, heck, EVEN FLOWER PEOPLE! So why not have cat people? Someone else on another forum posted this idea: house-cats in mech suits, and they have the power to jump out and fit in small areas. I liked this idea, but I added on that maybe some weird thing happened where only some cats remained in their normal form and developed exoskeleton-type spacesuits, and the rest of the cats became anthropomorphic cat-people. Maybe they'd have a resemblance to the Time-sweepers from the Blinx video-games (They're amazing!) well anyway, you get a choice in character creation: small, house-cats in exoskeletons, or anthropomorphic cat-people. More diversity = More Fun! I also like the self-absorbed idea, but maybe Chucklefish could add a personality tab in the C.C. I want to be a cat, but maybe I want my cat to be shunned upon by other cats for not being proud in myself, but rather in others.
