While Chucklefish works on the Novakid race, I (along with everyone else as it seems) decided to throw in my own ideas for a Race, in hopes that maybe I will be seen and my awesome ideas added. So, because I like to be creative, I decided to add 4 races in 4 separate boring, really short threads instead of one boring, really long thread. In this thread, Part 1, I will discuss the wonderful Rejeptile race! Biology The Rejeptile are, as you definitely could have guessed on your own, a reptilian race. They may come in a menagerie of different shapes, with many different body parts. Players would have the ability to customize hides (with options like turtle shells, cobra frills, fins, spines, spikes, and ridges) and head shapes (things like crocodile jaws, snake heads, snapping turtle beaks), mostly limited to greens, blues, and blacks but also coming in red, violet, pink, and white for those people who want to be extra alien. There would also be a 6th option for personality, a kind of hunched over slump for people who want to look very bestial with their vicious crocodile-turtles. Strict carnivores, Rejeptiles are similar to Florans in that anyone they kill (except the latter) can be eaten outright. However, in the middle of a famine due to a lack of edible life forms in their home sector, they developed a good temporary solution; Oystercaps, a genetic cross between toxic mushrooms and cliff dwelling mollusks native to their homeworld, an easily grown solution to this impending issue though near deadly to races that lack the twelve stomachs needed to digest their native foods. Advantages\Disadvantages If you look at an earlier thread here you will find the awesome idea for each race to have one advantage and one disadvantage. The Rejeptiles, since they are very savage creatures, would have the advantage of higher health or melee damage, while being reptiles would leave them with having a real weakness to cold, and thus would not be able to survive away from the campfire for as ling as everyone else. Technology Rejeptile tech consists of a lot of moving parts and roaring engines, smoke and noise. Giant furnaces, smoke stacks, gears, sparking wires, and electric anomalies like electrodes are a common feature, as are a lot of sharp pointy looking aesthetics. The technological level of Rejeptiles is at a cross between the industrial, modern age, and a more civil Victorian era. Biological technology and genetic hybrids are also a popular theme. Every Rejeptile starts out with a combat machete. Now onto less pressing matters, like society! Society Rejeptiles are, in every sense of the phrase, brutal warlike savages. Dwindling resources, a lust for supremacy and perfection, a food crisis, and a sudden need for slaves after previous ones rebelled (see part 3) all bring them to the call to arms. Rejeptile society is built up upon a caste system, with slaves acting as the foundation. Above the slaves are the farmers, who are just a step above them, then come the construction workers and merchants, and then the chefs and anyone with cooking abilities since Rejeptiles are obvious foodies. Above them are the soldiers, the muscle of the reptilian culture, then the corporate CEO's, the rich and suave, easily recognizable by their straight posture and thin form, always wearing stainless black and white suits\ties and surrounded by agents. far less aggressive than their underlings (though they are still just as willing to pay someone to kill). At the top of the pyramid are the royals, the governors and generals of the imperial army, topped off by the Emperor and Empress. While the Emperor is a giant, cruel monster who devourers his weight in slaves daily, he merely commands all military movements (which planets to plunder, which races to annihilate etc.). The true power lies in the hands of the Empress, a softer yet even more cruel tyrant who lords over all political, economic, legislative, and religious aspects. Relations with other races These brutes are absolutely hostile to every race except the Apex, who they revere as gods, and the Florans, who they find too strange to deal with since they are plants and cannot be eaten. They also tend to generally ignore Agarans for the same reason. For some reason they still despise the Glitch even though they cannot be eaten, possibly due to a prior experience with intelligent machines? Culture Rejeptile culture revolves around their primary deities; Drackoss, Subhath, and Nurlinder, who are said to watch over the Imperial Armadas as they go about ravaging the galaxy, easily condoning the ruthless slaughter of races. Now while they are vicious and cruel, they do not consider themselves evil but more "Greedy and corrupt, with a hint of desperation..." as said by Rejeptile philosopher, Stone Swampjaw "...We Rejeptiles are like any other race, trying to survive in a universe where ends don't quite meet." They also seem to worship the Apex and all Apex technology, as they were the ones to accidentally introduce the Rejeptiles to space travel. After ritualistically butchering the crash-landed apes, they reverse engineered the technology, seeing it as a gift from the three gods they worship. They then set about their two goals; to rebuild their economy (by any means necessary), and to 'spread this new found knowledge across the heavens.' In other words, kill everyone without a spaceship. The main colors with which they mark their ships are Green, Chrome, and Red, which they associate to each of their gods respectively. Structures There are two different structures in which Rejeptiles are found. The first is found on desert, arid, or forest worlds and is a large, industrial city, with sky-bridges and underground tunnels interconnecting the buildings, pools of lava and toxic waste between skyscrapers, and underground cells for storing food, slaves, and weapons. There are several landing pads and warehouses in these cities, always filled with soldiers, workers, slaves of Human, Floran, and Glitch origin. Huge factory machines and construction vehicles like cranes and bulldozers. In the center of every 'factory city' is a large tower, where the CEO's and Royals live, always protected by suit-wearing agents. The second structure is a more humble village, usually consisting of simple huts, and is found mostly on forest and jungle worlds (and on swamp worlds, if they get added!). These villagers are full of farmers and are far friendlier than their urban counterparts, very welcoming to foreign races. But be careful, for soldiers stop by every month to collect taxes from the people! Story Finally, the part where we come in. In the dawn of the Rejeptiles conquest throughout the known universe, the Imperial Armada was split into 5 fleets, the Croccos, Nagass, Snapass, Komass, and Othross flotillas, each one sent into the five cardinal directions of intergalactic travel. One flotilla, the Othross, ran into another fleet of what looked to be 'Hairless primates running for their lives (humans)'. When the stubborn Rejeptiles refused to negotiate, and after a long and gruesome struggle with casualties massing on both sides, the Othross flotilla was decimated, only a few surviving ships able to escape. Battered and heavily damaged, one ship fled into uncharted space, only one soldier surviving. That soldier would be you. Tune in to the next three threads for the Gastromorphs, Hivoid, and Felona races!
