"OMG This is the worst thing ever, I'm not playing a floran now" is a little bit excited at least, wouldn't you say? I'm not saying anything bad about anyone here, I'm just saying that we don't know the full story and while I agree and hope that these things are not the new Floran design, they very well could be a different species of Floran, an alien species, or ancient "Neanderflorians."
Good point. Also, if the dev didn't want feedback on work in progress, they would not post such work in progress. Not a reason for anyone to go balistic over every single detail either. Simply stating our like or dislike of certain elements and why should be enough. Tought, to be honest, I dont really like the kind of pixel art used for the intro frames, so I would have a hard time really loving anything from them myself. For me, pixel art should either remain as sprites or be very higly detailed, at which point you might as well just draw them directly. Eh, who knows, the final product might still impress me. I just wish it will not remain like how it is right now.

While I love his art-style, I'm against putting another dude out of a job. Also he helped come up with the Novakids, not the Florans.
I have to add my voice here saying that I am not digging these Florans if Florans they are. They seem so completely different from everything we have seen previously that I can't see any relationship beyond very, very distant. I was surprised (negatively) at the look of the Avians in their intro but I wasn't too fussed. This has me worried though.
While Betiol art is definitly good, everything I have seen from him was manga styled, and I just dont think it would fit so well in the game. For fan/concept art it is just totaly awesome, but I do think it should stick to pixel art even if I do not really like it.
Sadly I have to admit I don't care for this interpretation of what a floran looks like. To be honest, most of the intro art I've seen doesn't quite look the way I expected. But this one showing Florans (I'm assuming that's what they're supposed to be) just doesn't seem right. I don't mean to offend the artist, but these intro pictures are not quite portraying the races shown so far in a way that makes you think "cool". The avian in previous images look gangly rather than majestic and these Florans just don't look right at all. The fan art displayed in previous posts in this thread do an excellent job of showing the Florans and make them seem wicked, deadly and, well, COOL.
The Florans remind me of those weird creatures on a planet in Star Wars. The ones at the cloning facility? Not an accurate representation of my natural beauty and good looks. *smiles devilishly*
Another possibility would be that the Florans in the cutscene are formed from stories told about them. A verbal description of a Floran's basic appearence would cause other races to think up a creature similar, but not identical to the Floran. That may be what we're seing here, but I personaly think chances are slim. EDIT: Oh, and as fantastic as Bietol's art is, you can't have him do the cutscenes. At least, in that style. I've seen Legris work on other art, and he's AMAZING. Having Bietol do the cutscenes would only waste time, as I consider them equally matched. That and I don't mind the art style it's currently in.
I am a little partial to the manga style myself. It's just so pretty, And in my opinion it would fit starbound nicely... at least for the intros.
